That was the most miserable match I have ever experienced, words can not begin to describe it. I think I'm still shivering a bit on the inside. But it was worth it!

MAYOR APPEALS TO RED ARMY FANS TO JOIN BIG PARADE

THE Mayor of Limerick Cllr Joe Leddin appealed to thousands of Munster rugby fans today (Wednesday) to join the big parade to Thomond Park next Saturday to mark Munster’s final match in the old grounds.

The historic march of fans from the city centre to Thomond Park will be massive display of appreciation for the joy and entertainment that the old grounds have provided over the decades, Mayor Leddin said.

“ I would appeal to as many people as possible to join the Munster Rugby Supporters Club parade on Saturday as a mark of support and appreciation for all the pleasure that the old Thomond Park has given fans,” Mayor Leddin added.

The big Munster Red Army Parade to Thomond Park will start at Bedford Row at 3.30pm on Saturday and the fans will be lead by the CBS Brass Band.

Munster Rugby Supporters Club spokeswoman Trish Brewitt said that fans should make Saturday a Red Day by wearing red and bringing along as many flags, banners and jerseys to the parade.

“The aim of this parade is to give one final tribute to the old Thomond Park which has given us so much joy over the years,” Ms Brewitt added.

Taoiseach Bertie Ahern will attend the final match in old Thomond Park between Munster and the Leicester Tigers before it closes down for the E40 million redevelopment.

Shannon Development will give out over 5,000 guides to Limerick city to visitors coming to the match. Most of these will be distributed at Shannon Airport to the Leicester supports and throughout the city.

"Limerick has a lot to offer visitors and we want to ensure that the rugby fans get to see the city's best attractions, get a map guide to Thomond Park and the best places to eat and socialise," Shannon Development Limerick Regional Manager Eoghan Prendergast said.

Limerick has also lined up a fantastic programme of street entertainment before the match on Saturday for the fans in the city centre and outside the grounds.

This will start with a Rugby Mural competition outside Penny’s at 11am where you can test your skills at throwing a rugby ball through holes in a mural. And the winner of the Ulster Bank competition will secure a big party for their club for the final of the Six Nations.

Then fantastic street entertainment will be provided for children in Bedford Row and adjoining streets from with stilt walkers, magicians and fire magicians from 1.30pm to 3.30pm.

This will be followed by entertainment provided by the CBS Brass Band from 2.40pm onwards in Bedford Row as they rally the fans for the big Munster Red Army Parade to Thomond Park.

Along the route in Mayorstone the Boherbuoy Brass and Reed Band will provide entertainment, while the St John’s Brass Band will play outside the grounds.

The city has been decorated in a sea of red with 180 Munster flags lining the main streets, Munster and Limerick signs on both Sarsfield and Shannon bridges, along with welcoming signs at the entrances to the city.

The Irish Wheelchair Rugby team, the Gaelic Warriors, who compete in the paralympics will provide a display of their game in the Limerick Institute of Technology gym from 12.30pm to 2.30pm.

And three French officials from the Saint Denis Municipal Authority in Paris that will host the Rugby World Cup next autumn will attend the final match in the old Thomond Park.

They are on a three day visit to strengthen links between Limerick City, Munster Rugby and Paris and are guests of Limerick City Council.

That's a good draw for Munster all right, even though the way they played last weekend I wouldn't bet on the game.
