Recently my Toshiba Satelite which i have had about 3 years started giving trouble. as per usual i just put it down to an almost full (40gig) hard drive and wear and tear and the fact it hasnt had proper virus protection in god knows how long. about 30gigs of music. it was basically used for applying for jobs and a giant mp3. of course lots of porn too!

then on friday morning it finally stopped charging. Brought it to PC world where they told me i needed a universal charger that cost €100 and no i couldnt test try it in the shop. then i went to soundstore where a lovely foreign guy went out of his way and opened up products to try and charge it for me but alas the internal bit is shot to shit. Bummer. he said hed charge my battery then and there if he had a similar display model but he didnt.

so now i have this (http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/uk/en/ho/WF06a/21675-38187-179483-179483-179483-81143286.html) beautiful piece of machinery.

but my life exists on the toshiba and all my music. eventhough i bought it in PC world for €650 i dont want to go back to them bazzers for data transfer. i think i will try ebay for charger things and what not before i give up on it totally! its very sad. i wish i had backed up my hardrive onto the external one with four times the memory like i was told to since christmas.

so its all gone for the moment.

i dont really know what the point of this thread is. i just felt like venting.

and worse any of the people that may have been able to help me before well im not in touch with them anymore. so its double bummer.

im terrified ill loose all the pics and saved bits and pieces and the music that i limewired many long an hour for.

You never know, Pablo or Ciaran or someone might have some techno-help tips. I hope you get your stuff back. That's sucky.

Well you might be able to buy an external harddrive case , something like this Komplett.ie - Enclosures (http://www.komplett.ie/k/kl.aspx?bn=10095)
Take out the old harddrive (or get someone to do it for you) out of your laptop and put it into the case.
Then get a good computer and connected the the old drive via USB.
And see if you can connect to the drive that way.
Then copy it to the good computer.

It may not be the hard drive itself, rather it could be a connection to the drive.

I just bought an ipod. There's really nothing wrong with my current mp3 player, except it's slower than a retarded snail. I was on amazon, saw the ipod, hit buy... I really can't afford one right now.

The enclosure that Pablo links to allows you to take the HD out of the old laptop and then plug it into the new one as if it was an external drive, so you'd be able to copy everything off it

Something along these lines, USB 2.0 External Drive Enclosure (http://compreviews.about.com/od/cases/l/aaBlknUSB2Enc.htm)
except you get one for a 2.5" drive, so they look a fair bit smaller.
