OK, anyone that knows me knows my recent quest.... there are statistics all over the place that a huge proportion of young people take cocaine. I don't know anyone who does or I've never heard of anyone who knows anyone who takes it on a regular basis. So without calling the gardais on us I want to ask this question.

Is it as available and as much of an epidemic as the media portrays?

Well the quote says "have used", i.e. even just once [that's the one in five], for the one in three it's even wider "or some other illegal drug", that covers such a set of substances I'm surprised the number isn't higher!

I know a few people who have but none who do now regularly.

I know quite a few people who have - not on a regular basis - but they do if they get the chance to. It doesnt suprise me at all that it is one in 5 for cocaine at all really

Out of all the people I know, I only know two who've tried cocaine, and they're both in Edinburgh. I don't think I know anyone in Cork who's tried it.

But even so, there might be some people who still do it. Also is it not just for people in Cork?

I think everyone has at least one or two friends that will have tried it and that they just dont know because they may be too embarrased or whatever to say.

A girl I have known very well for over a year now does it on a regular basis and i had no idea at all.:dizzy:

you have got to be shiting me, just about every party i go to there is loads of people,

its got so bad as i just see it as the norm.

maybe i just run with a differant sort of crowed.

but if i go to a party i can almost garentie there will be some coke at it. and all sorts of other stuff.

was herione at one now that made me feel a little uncomfortable so i left.

but coke? cork is awash with it!

So out of the 5 people that replied one knows people has been to parties where it is available. That still doesn't tie down who takes it on a regular basis. So hapy even if there are a load of people taking it at a party are they regulars of it is one off experimental?
I'm still convinced the media has blown this way out of proportion.

Apparently I was at a party recently where they were sniffing some high class white power stuff. Not that I noticed or anything, I only heard about it afterwards.

I guess many people with too much money see it as a way to splurge a little.

Yeah it's all rumours and people who know people and stuff so I'm really skeptical. Like you're pretty observant now paul and you have your head stuck into everything that'd be going on in a party so I'd find it hard to believe that people were snorting cocaine without you knowing. And again.. even if they were it was a once-off rather than a grand a day habit...

well with me its not rumours.

i see it on a weekly bases and its not experimental.

and its not just the type of people i hang around with.

will go to differant partys with differant friends that dont know each other with differant back grounds and it still turns up.

well i went out loads in cork when i used live there and maybe once did i encounter somebody i thought to be on coke. that said i remember living with a real decent girl once and one night she went to party and next day was kinda like, ah yeah the food was yum but the dj was terrible he wouldnt play anything we asked, other than that a pill or two and a line of coke and fairly quiet night. i was like WTF!?! like this girl was in gym 7 days a week and ate super healthy and i couldnt believe my ears. she was a new zealander but i just couldnt believe she was so laid back!

it took me a long time to stop thinking of her as a "drug taker" for lack of better word. i guess i just dont socialise in circles where people rely on a parties atmosphere to be a good one when everybody is coked off their head.

seriously am i the only one on here that sees drugs all the time and im not including hash/weed in this?
