View Full Version : Camping, Stories and Experiences!
i went camping for the first time that wasnt my back garden this weekend, in the gorgeous ballylickey in west cork, nearly kerry. some set up. i think i have caught the bug. being ebaying bigger better tents and gadgets. i know using a campsite isnt real camping but in all fairness look at where we were in the country! anybody else a camper or like the idea of it. i never realised there was such a mafia like sub culture of caravan owners! creepy! i think this photo is a bit old but my god what a set up they have, check out eaglepointcamping.ie
I haven't camped in a while actually. I used to camp in France a lot as a child and I did a few trips to Kerry and other places like that for some drunken weekends.
Now a days I like staying in hotels like this in NYC (http://www.starwoodhotels.com/whotels/property/overview/index.html?propertyID=97502) or this in Berlin (http://www.berlin.radissonsas.com/) :D
well la di fecken daa pablo! haha! ah im getting off on this entire nature trip at the moment with the veg patch and all! going away to very nice hotel next weekend so its not like ive gone completely rough and ready

Hate hate hate camping.
Ooh Pablo's too good for camping now is he! (or he's just getting too old :P ) haven't been much recently, I really must do some this summer.
Yeah This is the summer for camping! I was swimming in the sea on Friday night... noice. It's defo a summer for outdoor living.
Yeah we were down in Inchydoney yesterday it was very nice... pity it's all gone horrible today though!
Actually I was camping last September now that I think about it, up mountains and all
I remember the time we went camping (I got sick of course) but when we woke up in the morning we realised that we had camped in the middle of a minefield of cow-pats.
Then last time I camped it was -4C and it snowed, but I was filled with Oktoberfest (http://www.oktoberfest.de/en/) joy.

i went camping back in march, was kinda cold but not freezing. on a beach in kerry called ballinskelligs. was a brillient weekend. on a beach with no one else around for miles, well there was a few houses but nothing major. planning on doing it again sometime in july i hope.on the beaches in kerry u just set up tent where you want and no one cares. i'm such a city boy i didn't realise you could do that. I wanted to know where the campsite was.
Oktoberfest joy eh Paul!? nudge nudge wink wink
That's my line and I'm sticking by it.
The problem with camping is that if you are going for more than 1 or 2 nights, you find you have to bring lots of stuff with you. Unless you can going to hike to the local McD's, which would defeat the whole idea IMHO.
ah not really, one cooler of food, as we did we bbq'd loads of meats etc saturday night and had cold sausages with brie and fresh warm nutty bread rolls for breakfast! nam nam! leftovers! there was a shop a mile away that we drove to! hey we aint ray mears!
Hah lightweights the lot of ye! It's not proper camping unless you carry everything on your back!! Up mountains!! And eat pasta and dried vegetable products, hmm dried vegetable products
ah now it was my first time. and the campsite was safe and my car was safe and twas too frigging hot to go trekking somewhere rustic! ah i dont care, i got a tan, well it will be a tan, maybe.
Ah I'm only messing it's amazing how lightly you will travel when you need to carry everything for a few days though
ah im not being serious anyhow ciaran. yeah i was good tho i brought a lounger but didnt bring any make up or hairstuff. so proud of myself. and i got the bbq going all by myself. good old presoaked charcoal!
what about this for camping : http://www.makezine.com/blog/archive/2007/06/tent_camping_for_the_city.html

It's called urban camping, where you have a tent in the shape of a car and park it on the side of the street !

done some camping in my time.
with ciaran on this one its not real camping unless its done on the side of a mountain,
last time i went was camped just below the top of mount branden. was fun.
have not been in ages do. used to have all light weight cmping gear and cooking stuff and my buddy used rob those nice little fual blocks from the arm to keep it all going.
nice to have a good fry up on the side of the mountain in shity weather!
because as we all know shity weather is key to making it fun!
i wouldnt fancy lugging all that metal around with me. but good idea if you wanted to "camp" in town. could do with a ground sheet tho. and then youd have people thinking of i wonder what sort of car is that to say they cover it? or is covering your car more common over yonder? the continent like.

ya fllor matt would not go a miss.
but the metal is prob some nice light weight stuff.
but its a fun idea.
pitch it on patrick street just befor you go to the pub, get wasted and stumble back to it. sorts out the taxi problem!
or if you pull and she says your place or mine?
oh the fun!
