I just came across this on lifehack.org http://howto.lifehack.org/wiki/Polyphasic_Sleep (via this article on how to use time more efficiently (http://www.lifehack.org/articles/productivity/50-ways-to-increase-your-productivity.html) via digg (http://digg.com))

Basically you sleep at various intervals during the day, 4/5/6 for 40 minutes at a time and your body should be able to cope with it. So instead of 7 hours sleep you now could do with 4 or 5 hours sleep or less !

seems like a load of bollox to me.

its just not practical.

the negatives out weigh the posatives.

its a stupit idea.

i norm run on about 4 or 5 hours sleep anyway.

then just crash after a few weeks, get a big mad sleep and away again

Ugh, I can't function for sustained periods on less than 10 hours a night! Because of exams and stress, I've only slept for about 6 hours a night for the past week, and it's really taking its toll on me.

Also, I find napping really difficult. I just can't relax enough, especially if I've set myself a time limit for the nap.

I dont really nap. I love long sleeps otherwise I get way too tired. If i dont get 8 hours im wrecked for most of the day!

There is a guy who naps in work here, about 3 times a day for anything up to 30 minutes. He could come into work and just put his head down for a bit. The thing is, he's a student, from Asia, so maybe they are more into it there.

I need about 7 hours sleep, and at least once a week somewhere closer to 9. I think 4 hours is my absolute minimum that I could work on, but I would be like a zombie after 2 or three days.

hmm does the compnay pay him for his power napping? i always find after being up allnight for whatever reason, that day im fine but the day after unless i get to sleep really early ill be dead. when i worked in de puy i used do 12 hour shifts. amazing how quickly you get used to going to bed at 8.30 in morning and never getting a full 8 hours, maybe 6 on a good day and you still manage to be the "quality controller" for 12 hours the next night.

He gets paid, but not that much , around €800 a month for being a student, I think.

I always find that at the end of the week I need more sleep. During the week there's a slow discharge of my batteries. Also if I've done some sports a few days in a row, I'm a mess in the mornings too
