basically an email came to my feckthat address there a few weeks ago but i only saw it a few days ago. it said i had been picked throught something and my email address came out in a lotto and id won a million! i was like okay so i forwarded the email to the person i was meant to contact and they said yeah yeah you have one and fill out attached form. i have NO intention of doing so but i just find it a bit weird. bit of an elaborate scam. although there are no phone numbers so it is a scam, i think!

so have scams caught anybody here out? know any good ones?

Yes it would be poo. Your feckthat address is probably on the web somewhere and was picked up by a bot.
I have all my emails forwarded to 2 gmail address and that does the spam filtering for me, and I use labels to tag on what email address it was sent to.

Ah come on, DHBH, do you really think for a second that that's genuine? That's one of the most common scams online. Have you entered any lotteries in the Netherlands? Why would they contact you by email? Especially this bit:

Bank Name .................................................Bank Telephone:.............................

Bank Address.....................................................................................ACC NO........................................................

CLAIMANT'S SIGNATURE: --------------------------------------- DATE ----------------------------

People must fall for it, I imagine, but anybody who actually fills out their damn BANK DETAILS and emails them to a random person deserved to be scammed, imo! You realise that with those details they can completely gain access to your account, right?

You could bait them for a while if you were bored, but I doubt they'd get involved.

Here's details about one (http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055080703&referrerid=&highlight=lottery+win) on boards.ie, another (http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055057011&referrerid=&highlight=lottery+win), and another (http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055046140&referrerid=&highlight=lottery+win)...

oh i know it utter bullshite like, but truth is i coulf give you my sort code and account number and unless you are some sort of cool hacker person we didnt realise then you couldnt do a whole lot with my bank account. i didnt believe it for second, nor would i send them any personal details but just made me think of somebody who was lets say new to email getting something like that. i remember years ago on my first yahoo address i used actually read spam coz i thought twas for me. i was about 14 in all fairness and didnt know a URl from a PDF

hahaha i just rang the number i didnt see earlier, from my work phone! Haha i asked who i was speaking with and he said Rainer Hart. so i said okay would you like my bank details to put my winnings in my accounnt and he just told me to fill out the form. then i said i dont have access to internet can you take them over the phone perhaps and he hung up. i definitely woke him up. that put the shits up him i reckon.

think ill ring again later

If I had your bank account number, sort code, bank address and signature, I could go into the bank, fill out a form, and withdraw all your money.

I'm sure I used to read spam at the start too! I've never gotten fun spam like the 419 ones though.

I think they would need to show some ID to withdraw money.

Faith

Do they? I haven't used a bank to withdraw money for eons at this stage.

As far as I know. Some places even have a PIN machine where you have to put in the PIN to get money out too.

Anyway these scams, normally ask for your details, and ask for a picture of you. That way they can make a fake ID and then go to the bank. Or else they will ask you for a processing fee up front to get your money. Anyway, once Western Union is mention then you should be getting worried.

Here's an interesting article from the BBC about the 419-scams : http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/africa/3887493.stm
