Well in fairness to pfizer, the trial was on people with serious heart conditions anyway - 51 of the same sized sample not taking the drug died in the same period

well its all a matter of the race to the newest blockbuster drug before pattents on existing blockbusters like lipitor run out. the have planty money in the kitty so i guess they will just have to take somewhere over. the life of a pahrmaceutical company is never straightforward. i think fair play to them for making it public asap. it is kinda scary to say this drug been tested sine the 90s and still wasnt ready for FDA approval. kinda make you think about the actual R&D that goes into a regular cough syrup.

pfizer have been on a steady slope down hill recently. wouldn't go so far about the plenty of drugs in the kitty. costs upwards of ten billion dollars to get a drug to the market so they've already lost alot. doesnt bother me though cos i aint applying for a job there.
