View Full Version : As its Australia Day, the gap year, of sorts
well im toying withh the idea of heading to the land down under. Anybody else planning to do so?
Has anybody been? or the states, asia and so on.
Dave fanning doing show on it there this evening and nobody had anything negative to say. the bitch of it is simply getting the cash together.
ozzie ozzie ozzie !
Well you might as well do it when you're young. But yes you need a bit of cash behind you to do stuff when you are there and to live and all that. I think for Oz you need to supply a bank statement which shows the government that you have the bank roll to live there for a few months.
I did a summer in America on a J1 in the middle of Uni. It was great, I learned alot about myself there. Had the time of my life and saw geat places.
It all depends on what you want to do. And what kind of person you are, and the reasons for going.
true the J1 is great way to live away from th e auld sod for a while and it teaches you so much like the joy of shopping in walmart, more fun and mad stories than you can ever tell. its a great experience.
if the money thing is like horrible you could do a socraties/ erasamus year in uni and there is a lot of funding to do that. a lot of my mates did that and most had a blast.
any way it's only a cupla grand ...... sell the granny on e bay mine sold for 50 euro
my best friend's sister is in austrailia for the year. she's on a working holiday visa. she can only spend three months in each city and has to move on then
is it not three months with any one employer? according to the websites that do all this it is.
thankfully my time with the british embassy makes it a lot easier to understand these sort of things.
im trying to pick out a route that avoids the likes of cairns or anywhere north or inland during the summer. girl i work with is just back and december in cairns provides 42*C heat in the shade. the tour guides were all first aiders and you werent allowed go anywhere with out at least a litre of water.
so much to see so much to do.
My flatmates from Melbourne and she says it's great. Go there!
australia is cool but i wanna go to new zealand!! you dont even need that much money (not saying do this) but if you get the money(borrow) put it into your bank account a few weeks later print out a statement (within in 1mth of going or so) and it will say you have lots of money then give the money back to whom ever you borrowed it from. you can stay with any employer for a max of 3mths, you can stay in a certain city for as long as you want!!

Good looking chicks, can get well paid doing an unusual job in Oz. A friend of mine went there and was earning over A$400 pw. doing traffic duty at road works. all she had to do was holding one of those lollipops. She has legs to die for, and did this in the Ozzie summer. Their thinking is that guys will stop at her sign, when it shows stop, just to look at her. Pervie perhaps, but she got good pay for it.

They're like that in old OZ. :D They're not very PC, far more down to earth! What a feckin' brilliant job! If I'd the legs I'd do it.
I was in Cairns travelling around Queensland for a month, they're all NUTTERS. Brilliant fun altogether. Went to Brisbane etc. Right in the middle of October - gorgeous weather, beautiful sun, sea, sand and rainforest. Awesome place to live - I'll be there someday soon!

Yeh. Cairns is deadly, spent ten days there doing all sorts of things. The Quicksilver trip to the Barrier Reef was the best thing I ever did out there. Would do it again in a second
