Scanger or skanger is a derogatory term for members of a youth subculture group in Ireland (especially Dublin - the Cork equivalent is "skobe"). Similar groupings elsewhere are chavs in Britain, and white trash in the USA - Source Wikipedia.org

chavs don't like to _admit_ they're chavs, they prefer to be called 'townies' instead. can't think why ;)
