View Full Version : Breakfast - what do you like for breakfast

pablo
28-07-2005, 10:32
Do you eat it ? (see poll)

Typically I find that I am not hungry until about 2 hours after I get up. Sometimes sooner. Normally I just wait until lunch time or grab something in the shop around 10am.

I know people say that it's the most important meal of the day and all that deal. But I don't think I have suffered any ill effects in the last year as a direct result of not eating breakfast.

i agree pablo. usually i wake up and i aint hungry. if i do wanna eat something b4 lunch i just wait till the tea break at 10.30 and get something then

lunch is usualy the first meal of the day tho.

If I'm working I always have breakfast, but that just because I follow the herd to the canteen and graze with them.:moo:

If I am home I very, very rarely eat before lunch, I just don't get hungry before then.

but isnt breakfast the first meal of the day where you "break your fast" so are technically eating it at lunch or whatever. either if it comes to do i eat before leaving the house then it's rarely, if i have time or if i happen to be particularly peckish.

Azrael
28-07-2005, 14:00
but if you eat at lunchtime when its time for lunch is it still breakfast if your breaking your fast? and is this why the word brunch was invented?

DHBH
28-07-2005, 14:08
thats exactly what i said Az are you trying to confuse me now! brunch is an excuse for bored housewives and yuppies to go to cafes and eachothers houses between 10-12

pizza: the only food group.

sides it works out rather well. 24" means 1 for ever hour in the day

Cold pizza is a great breakfast.
I'm just not a fan of the old Cornflakes and milk (or in my case apple juice) every day. Maybe it's the fact that I used to eat it for the first 20 years of my life every day.

I have waffles every school morning but any other morning i'm just not hungry until i've woken up properly which generally takes a few hours.

if i had the time the time i'd have cereal and toast every morning but i'm always running late for work so just have a few minutes to spare, usually grab a glass of orange juice down it in one go and take a handful of grapes and an apple or banana with me that i eat on the way to work.

and when i'm not workin i get up around 11 so i just skip breatfast and have lunch which as ye were sayin is tecnically breakfast in a way.

I could never stomach an Irish breakfast, unless it was for dinner. Way too much!
If I'm really hungry and it's special, maybe on holiday, I like French Toast.

irish brekkie is savage any time of day, especially when you get potatoe farls in it!

Porridge isn't expensive! And it slowly releases energy throughout the morning thereby setting you up for the day. The only problem is that it tastes like crap...but that can be disguised if you're clever!

New coffee in the CIT canteen. Seems ok, almost pleasant, although maybe it only tasted good because it was free today!

something like this is great if you can get your paws on it, and some hot water. Just put the coffee in the bottom, bring your cup to college, find hot water, pour, wait, plunge and enjoy !

or the standard thermos flask, the coffee isnt AS fresh but its fresher than the canteen stuff.

They were givin it out free coz they changed their suppliers but it doesnt taste much better tbh

yuck i hate coffee! do they make ones for tea? I suppose you could replace the coffee with tea leaves instead...

Tree
04-10-2005, 23:20
they call them tea bags...

kidney killer
05-10-2005, 15:39
Some people prefer tea leaves to tea bags actually coz it tastes different so tea leaves are not called tea bags. They're called tea leaves!

Jack B. Badd
05-10-2005, 17:56
Anyone ever accidently swallow the tea leaves from the bottom of a cup of "proper" tea (i.e. made with tea leaves, not tea bags, according to my nan)? Tastes yukky beyond belief...ruins a perfectly good cuppa. The moral of this story is...I prefer tea bags :)

speaking of tin foil dont put it in the microwave. did it with a breakfast roll once on one lazy sunday morning.

Tree

tea leaves would equate to the coffee grounds inthe cup jason wants, so the tea bag itself would equate to the filter. thank you

Tin foil acts as a sheild against the micro waves reflecting it away, and the energy in the microwaves causes sparking on the tinfoil. Or any other metal put into the microwave, even that little gold decorative rim on cups and plates.

Jack B. Badd
06-10-2005, 18:12
I thought EVERYONE knew about not putting metal objects or foil in the microwave?! Seriously scary if they don't!
Now whole raw eggs in the microwave is fun! They go BOOM!!! I saw some film sometime where two guys spent 20 minutes or something blowing up eggs in a microwave but I can't remember what the film was called...

Tree
06-10-2005, 20:06
it is possible to boil eggs in a microwave, you get these little plasticy cups for it.

peas also go pop a lot in a microwave

Jack B. Badd
06-10-2005, 21:38
And beans! But they don't go BOOM, more like POPPOPPOP...POP......POPPOP! Like a machine gun.

Nah, I've moved onto French Toast and Scrambled Eggs, and it costs 1 pound 50 for the lot. if I get a milkshake, it's an extra quid. Life is good :D

Just sitting at my PC and wondering what people eat for breakfast again.
Todays mismatch of food.

2 day old slice of pizza (was in the fridge) 2 yogurts
a dose of coffee (next and final stage)

I do have bread/cheese/ham at home, just it appears I am too lazy to throw something together. :square:

I think eating breakfast for a whole week will be this year's challenge. Last year my challenge was to get into work for a whole week before 9am (I only did this 3 times or so), let's see how the breakfast challenge goes.

Sainsbo's own brand (but REALLY amazing) Fruit and Nut Fibre thing.

It's well yummy, except the person who makes it who isn't me keeps putting three litres of milk in one bowl. :(

Used to eat those rice cake thingies with peanut butter on 'em for brekkie but after a while the roof of your mouth goes all yucky and it says like that for the whole day...:(

Bit off topic but I was watching CSI the other night and there was a guy who was on death row and ordered a peanut butter and jelly sandwich as his last meal. He was allergic to peanuts and the guards didn't know and he died. Seems a bit of an extreme way to beat the system!

In my flat we have the great peanut debate......
smooth V chrunchy
imported from usa V domestic
Skippy V Jiff
Organic V Sun Pat
it grat fun all these tasting sessions
results are organic is only fit to repair walls, own brand like asda sintburies are crap but geniuine imported stuff is class!

Had organic Cashew nut butter for a while. Much heavier than peanut butter but lovely jubly. Think its more useful for cooking than anything else.
Was very tempted to attack the left-over special fried rice this morning but resisted. Had loverly marmite and toast instead :)

Sometimes my mammy makes me a packed lunch for college (how sad is that) *cringe*
But i usually scoff that down on my way to college

Or else grab soem choccie on the way

By skipping brekkie i get an extra 10 minutes in bed so thats kinda great!!!
