So I just had my first experience of tele-sales. Jesus, what a bitch! Trying to get me to buy a mobile phone contract with a phone. And there's me being polite.

"I'm ok, thank you, I have just gotten a new phone. I'm not interested."

And in this annoyingly stupid tone that says "Don't be stupid", she says

"But you can giveit to your loved one. Can I have you address please?"

"I'm NOT interested, I'm sorry." at this point, she interrupts me.

"Your loved one is interested in a new phone, you can give it to them."

ARGH Why are people so fecking pushy?! Can't they just accept the bloody word NO?!!?!?!?!!!

I've done a few sales jobs, and the best thing/strategy that they use to make a sale is to have pre-prepared counter-arguments to people's responses.

Like :
Customer : Sorry I don't have the time to do this.
Sales Dude : Well it will just take a minute, as we still have your credit card details on file.

Customer : I don't think I need another one.
Sales Dude : Well this is the best offer that I've ever seen, and the make a great gift.

Customer : Actually I don't think I can afford it.
Sales Dude : We can put the payments into three or 5 monthly installments, shall we do this together and put it on your card now ?

It can be an evil job, depends if you have scruples or not (in certain cases). But I would never do cold calling, and I would be very slow even to do out bound calls.

what ya do is(i saw this in seinfeld and works really good) ask them for their number and home address saying you'll be in contact cause you are really interested but can't talk right now. they won't be long tellin you to get lost and hanging up after you start annonying them for such details.
