why did jan 1st skip saturday?

its not a joke, seriously last year as in 2004 the 1st of jan was on thursday, the 2nd was friday and so on. this year the 1st was today which is saturday. why didn't it go to friday like it should have, checked the calender next year the 1st is sunday as it should be. i'm thinking there might be a leap year or something involved. but i dunno. anyone one else sadder than me to have noticed and know why?

yup this was the first time i noticed it was a leap year,unless i noticed in february and forgot bout it. and the title of the thread is wrong, jan 1st skipped friday this year not saturday. cause the 1st was saturday this year unless i'm wrong. sorry bout that.
