View Full Version : best horror movies?
love scary films and right now at the top of my list is 'the Shining'. can anyone think of any other good ones to add to my dvd collection  :ghost:
Hey Spirit, I'm a big fan of horror movies too, and one of my personal favourite would have to be the Shining as well (great ending). By the Shining I assume you mean Stanley Kubricks movie and not the terrible Stephan Kings The Shining...
I know its more sci-fi but another one I enjoyed was Event Horizon, Alien and Aliens are classics with Aliens being my personal favourite, I wouldn't class American psycho as a horror but its a brilliant movie all the same,Childs play series is always a gruesome one and puts the fear of dolls in your heart...
I'm one of the fans of The Exorcist, and the Blair witch has a great slant on suspense horror. One less heard of but really great is the Hitcher. Also the first ten minutes of the first scream movie, otherwise forget the rest of them.
The new(er) version of Frankenstein and the Texas Chainsaw massacre and the manga Perfect Blue. Especially Perfect Blue, thats a really great film. Of course Hitchcock's Psycho and The birds (which is still pretty damn good) are still worth a look.
The leprachan, Evil Dead and Omen are all good for a laugh... Especially that part in Omen 3 when Damien sends his best friends soul to hell... ahhh the laughs.... "Damien why are you so evil?"
Phew... that any help?
/phew/ wow thanks Veritas. Can you believe I’ve watched every film you mentioned there except Perfect Blue. Granted i haven’t watched some of the above in a long time. Chucky was cool, so was the leprechaun, did you see the 2nd 1? It’s ridiculous! Hey welcome to feckthat too bud :)
I'm impressed but not surprised, after most of those are staple horror films, except for the Hitcher. To my shame I must admit I haven't seen the second leprechaun, and I'm usually such a sucker for cheesy horrors, (to my shame I own Evil Dead 2... on DVD). Thanks for the welcome!
Oh and I strongly suggest you get a look at Perfect Blue, very good movie. I mean it has cheesy Japanese pop music, how cool is that!
Cheesy Japanese pop? my heart just skipped a beat! I’ll try check it out so! The Hitcher….in that film wasn’t a girl tied to the end of a truck and car and pulled apart? Sick sick sick. If you like gruesome sh*t too try natural born killers, the uncut version.
Yeah, that was pretty gruesome, but it wasn't graphic gruesome like Natural born killers. Now that film I didn't even enjoy watching. Strangely enough I've never seen the cut version of it. Ever see night of the living dead? Any of them? I've seen 1 and 3 and was pretty impressed by one since I was kind of expecting cheesy horror (ala Nightmare on Elm St. nowadays).
no don't think i have, i'll 'note to self' on that and give you some feedback. enjoy the town/shopping/cd's thingy...make sure and visit again!
IT. For those of you with a fear of clowns to the same extent of mine, there is no scarier movie.
aye, my boyfriend has it but gave 'it' (ha ha) to his brother. i've been trying for ages to get 'it' back, tsh!

the evil dead trilogy are class, dont think they're really intenbed to be scarey though, nd braindead is worth a watch, tis a very funny yet graphic horror
Are the Children of the Corn films any good? there's some i haven't seen so far. actually i started watching the beginning of one when i was younger and then my brother-in law who was watching it with me fell asleep and i got scared so i turned it off! they're probably pants!

you gotta get dg soldiers. more comedy horror than anything but it's a fucking class film with some great one liners
Saw it, yep it’s class. It has plenty ‘make you jump’ bits too :)
I actually thought Dog soldiers was poor but I was probably thinking it was trying to be a serious film.
Evil dead... I think they were intended to be scary when they first came out but you can never be sure. The seond one is hilarious where demons possess his hand and try to kill him with it.
Ash: [talking to mirror] I'm fine... I'm fine...
[Mirror Ash jumps out of the mirror and grabs Ash.]
Mirror Ash: I don't think so. We just cut up our girlfriend with a chainsaw. Does that sound "fine"?
As for IT, that haunted my childhood...
Children of the corn., is that the one with the kids and bthe glowing red eyes, if it is I wouldn't suggest it, it aged pretty badly. Unless you want a chuckle, but in that case I advise Airplane, or Evil Dead.
