The Hells
Once in awhile there's a buzz about a band before they've even played a gig. Occasionally the excitement is justified, as is the case with The Hells. And when those gigs did happen, with The Soledad Brothers, The Rapture and The Burning Brides, the buzz became justified by the power of their performance, the quality of their songwriting and the tangible electricity of their on-stage magnetism.
The Hells are Ippy and Kevin who met through a mutual friend - Ippy is originally from Spain and Kevin, from Philadelphia, USA. Upon meeting and comparing record collections (Ike and Tina next to the Cramps... Black Sabbath... Radio Birdman... Miles Davis... Johnny Thunders...), BANG! A spark of recognition, the mystique, the trash and class... it was then they knew they had to start their own favourite band: punk, loud, sexy rock n roll. The Hells were born.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the world, drummer friend, Jeff Watson of the Icarus Line, was seduced by the idea of trading a nice apartment in sunny LA for sleeping on floors in the middle of a London Winter, to help these two play a string of gigs and blag some recording time. They had time to record six tracks before Jeff came to his senses, and realised that life wasn't just for having fun, it was time to return to LA, rejoin The Icarus Line and do some work. He has been replaced most effectively by former Warm Jets and Tiger drummer Ed Wood and the live sound has been further augmented with the rocking bass of The Beating's Dino Golnick.
The Gin Palace
The Gin Palace is an electrifying band from London._ It's a six month old 3 piece with a lady singer, no bass guitar and no hi-hats._ Formed from the ashes of London rockers, Penthouse and featuring the Robert Quine-cum-Spencer guitar blitz of Jon Free, The Gin Palace trio strip it down to rock'n'roll essentials… guitar, drums and vocals. Meaghan is a furious, elegant Deitrich, a panther in a cocktail dress._ Jon's guitar is a farm threshing machine that has literally become unhinged
and is spinning out of control - faster faster faster - while Stuart is the steaming, pounding generator which drives the truck. The Gin Palace are the most fearsome and exciting bastardisation of what crawled up from the blues swamp that the UK has produced since The Yardbirds. "Kill-Grief" is their debut release.
Jeffrey Lewis
Jeffrey Lewis is a New York City artist who translates his life into warming, absorbing comic book stories. His amazing live shows consist of garagey, psychedelic lullabies with an expanding collection of "lo-budget videos" (really just large ragged comic books drawn by Jeffrey, which are held up and shown to the audience). Along with The Moldy Peaches, Lewis plays the "Anti-Folk" circuit in NYC (he also drew some of the Peaches album sleeve artwork) . Following his debut single "The Chelsea Hotel Oral Sex Song" and his full-length album "The Last Time I Did Acid I Went Insane", Lewis has released his 2nd album entitled "It's The Ones Who've Cracked That The Light Shines Through" on Rough Trade Records (home to The Strokes/Moldy Peaches/The Libertines/Low).
Diane Cluck
Diane Cluck is a 25 year-old New York songwriter. She has done tours with Daniel Johnston in the US and had a residency at New York City's prestigeous avant-downtown club Tonic. She has a quite unique, unorthodox singing/playing style, and a totally mesmerising stage presence. She sometimes builds her own instruments or plays unusual instruments, but even if just touring with an acoustic guitar she invents odd chords and note patterns for an exquisite musical experience that is often as unsettling as it is beautiful. She has done a few songs on the "Collaborations" album with Jeffrey Lewis and Kimya Dawson (Moldy Peaches) and she has a track featured on Rough Trade's "Antifolk Volume 1 CD".

THE EX
Starting out as a punk band from Amsterdam and Wormer, The Ex has developed over the years into a melting pot of divergent musical styles, interweaving noise, punk, roots, jazz, classical and ethnic music under one unique umbrella: Ex-music. Other features are the discordant, highly rhythmic guitar work, the rolling almost African drumming style and the furious way in which they deliver their often sarcastic lyrics.
In the first few years, The Ex denounce political and social evils in their typical black and white manner and have gone on to speak out against injustices and infringements on human rights worldwide. Like Fugazi, they set a significant example for the alternative music circuit by which their records, accompanied by posters, booklets and other relevant readings, are released and distributed by the group itself to avoid the corporate music world altogether.
The Ex remains true to its original ideals and has continued to expand into an octopus of musical forces. The band's last record was recorded by Steve Albini at his Chicago studio. Albini's purist recording methods were the perfect complement to The Ex's purist music.

I Am Kloot formed in Manchester nearly four years ago. After a handful of live shows, which were attracting the attention of locals and critics alike.
They were quickly snapped up by Manchester’s Ugly Man label who released their debut 7" single. Soon after the band signed to Wall Of Sound’s new offshoot -We Love You Records. A string of brilliant singles followed and in March 2001 they released their debut album entitled "Natural History" .
Critically recognised as one of the finest debut albums of the year, it more than confirmed their early promise as one of the best new bands around. Constant touring with a live show that is both unsettling and engaging, saw the group attract widespread acclaim in the U.K and across Europe.
Now signed to Echo Records , I Am Kloot have returned with a collection of new songs of the like they’ve so far only threatened. Combining twisted tales of love found (and always lost) with dark, yet perfect, pop melodies.

The bands‚ multi-instrumental sound - mixing banjo, fiddle, mandolin, acoustic and electric guitars - is rooted in the alt.country vein, underpinned with a pop sensibility and topped off by the bittersweet harmonies of dual vocals.
The Temperance Union formed in London in 1999, initially for a one-off recording, to indulge the members‚ collective love for the Byrds, Elvis, Neil Young and quality country music. The band was originally called Loudermilk, until a communiqué from the management of U.S. nu-metal upstarts Loudermilk forced a name change earlier this year.
The band began in earnest in mid 2000, by which time enthusiasm for all things alt.country meant they were able to start gigging at London venues such as the alt.country showcase "come on down and meet the folks" in Camden and "Nashville Babylon" at the 12-Bar club. Since then, the band has continued to play throughout the UK, releasing a self-financed ep in February 2002. The band is now seeking to expand their horizons with upcoming gigs in Ireland and Europe and the release of their second ep.

press quotes below:
"Maginificent... monumental... overwhelming music. A formidable demonstration of what can still be done with guitars"
Uncut - 4 Stars (lead review)
"The Earth... is 45 minutes of richly atmospheric, emotional upheaval. Shimmering, heavily-treated plateaus... the most beautiful, elegiac chiming this side of Johnny Marr... swirling tornadoes of sound: it is eloquent, intense instrumental music. It will kill anyone who ever had a heart, never mind those who already love FX-pedal pushers such as Ride and Mogwai."
NME - 8 out of 10
"'The Earth Is Not A Cold Dead Place' not only outclasses recent efforts from bands such as Godspeed You! Black Emperor and Mono, but sets a new standard in bare-boned dynamic post-rock music. My friends, we have something new to believe in."
The Fly - 5 Stars
"Opening track 'First Breath After Coma' is composed from the sort of lonely hooks that Sigur Ros usually hang their melancholy upon, while the militaristic thunder of 'The Only Moment We Were Alone' sends guitars into a bloody battle between cacophonic distortion and melodic chiming... In preparation for what promises to be cold winter ahead, here lies some truly warm comfort."
X-Ray - 4 Stars
"What raises EITS above the hordes is an emotional articulacy, the poignancy and power of their melodies, be it the potent mourn of the tear-streaked 'Memorial' or the epic slow-burn grace of the colossal 'First Breath After Coma'. In terms of pure beauty and resonance, these Explosions are breathtaking."
MOJO - 4 Stars
"It is genuinely both heart-breaking and triumphant, just like they promised; and also quite superb."
LOGO - 4.5 Stars (Album of the Month)
"If you like Godspeed, Mogwai or Sigur Ros, this album has your name on it. It does that post-rock trick of taking a slow, lonely, mournful, simple melody and gradually embellishing it into a sublime crescendo of intense guitar noise which prickles the hairs on your neck. I defy you not to be smitten."
Sunday Telegraph (lead review)
"five hypnotic mini-symphonies full of suprising twists that whisk you on long, dreamy journeys... This is a warm winter treat."
The Times - 4 Stars
"Just when it looked like the world didn't care about adding to the genre dominated by Mogwai and Sigur Ros, along comes an album from this instrumental Texan quartet that really ups the game... you should turn the volume to maximum to reveal it's all-round musical genius."
The Independent - 4 Stars
"an achingly pretty refinement of the quartet's panoramic post-rock. The
scale of the noise is breathtaking..."
Bang - 4 Stars
"EITS come up with a rock'n'roll firework display that is dazzlingly played and wonderful to behold."
The Wire
"It's astonishing how much racket they summon up. The climax of 'The Only Moment We Were Alone', in particular, is beautiful, awe-inspiring and terrifying. It will not leave you unmoved..."
Daily Telegraph
"The five lengthy tracks on offer here all exude a unique level of warmth and melodic intricacy, especially during the 10-minute 'The Only Moment We Were Alone' which builds into a final cascade of noise and shimmering guitar chimes reminiscent of many Godspeed You! Black Emperor classics"
Rock Sound - 7 out of 10

Rulers of the Planet
We Are The Late-Night Terror Death Squad
Release and Tour January 2004
After taking Irish alt-radio by storm in 2003 with their debut EP No-one Understands The Devil’s Music Better Than The Rulers of the Planet, the Cork 5-piece are back with a scintillating follow-up in January 2004, We Are The Late-Night Terror Death Squad.
Rulers of Planet burst onto the scene with sold-out shows in Cork, Limerick and Dublin, recognised by top
Irish presenter Dave Fanning as having "brought a breath of fresh air to the Irish music scene"
Rulers of the Planet’s incendiary live shows have quickly become the stuff of legend, earning huge critical praise for their show-stealing appearance at 2003’s IMRO Showcase at Dublin’s The Village.
TV appearances and a Fanning Session quickly followed and while being courted by several labels from the UK and US, the band have continued to put out their scorching brand of explosive rock on their own label.
We Are The Late Night Terror Death Squad should confirm to anyone who heard their excellent debut that Rulers of the Planet are at the top of the pile of this country’s hard rocking bands.

WAITING ROOM
CATERING FOR HEADPHONES
(Ooalooo2)
Hailing from Cork, Waiting room deliver a unique sound that comfortably slides and cuts through genres with an infectiously laid back air. The three-piece formed only three years ago, and almost instantaneously set about putting their first songs to record. The resulting debut album, "Losing Patience" was very much a mellow indie record; which Mark O' Sullivan (hot press) described as "packed full of three minute pop gems", while inside cork's Micheal Carr compared the album to "Pablo Honey's more vibrant moments...slower...more imaginative".
Since that particular release, the band have embraced the likes of Mogwai and Fugazi to showcase the full scope of their talents. Audience feedback from time spent in various haunts accross the country were enough to encourage Waiting Room to become a more audacious and experimental outfit.
The proof of this shift from the band's earlier material can be seen in the forthcoming release of "Catering for Headphones", Waiting Room's new album that is to be released by Limerick/Cork-based independent label Out On A LImb Records in February 2004.
From the opening instumental assault of "Waller St" and "I took some painkillers" to the aching tenderness of "Angel" and "Today Left Me With", the album moves melodically accross diverse territories. Singer Nigel's gentle and mellifluous yet enduring vocals, and the incredibly taut and meandering rhythm section formed by bassist Dave and drummer Wayne, are now complimented in studio by lush string arrangements and sweet female backing vocals.
The eagerly anticipated release of "Catering for Headphones" will be met by the return of Waiting Room to the live circuit. The tour for the album will take in dates accross the country, before the band leave for the UK at the end of February.
"....given their penchant for incisive three minute rock-outs topped off with the sweetest voice in the People's Republic." Leagues O' Toole, Irish Examiner.

After doing time in the criminally obscure Chicago art-rock band Condeucent, Bobby Conn struck out on his own in 95. A relationship with the Truckstop/Atavistic label family followed, culminating in the critically acclaimed opus "Rise Up!" release. This album, produced by Jim O’Rourke, found Bobby exploring his Judaic heritage with a fervor and a concept that led many to believe that Bobby Conn was indeed, the Anti-Christ. The adoring public is at times overwhelming, and no one knows it more than a performer of the stature of Bobby Conn. The success of his first album pushed his already anxious listeners to a fever-like pitch. Unable to ward them off any longer, Bobby moved on to Thrill Jockey Records inviting the listener to indulge in a world of leisure with releases such as "Llovesongs" and "The Golden Age" . It’s a world that celebrates the salad days of FM radio in the 70’s, exploring the glam, disco, upbeat pop, rock, lounge and soul that a decade of decadence is known for. His new album "The Homeland" (out now on Thrill Jockey) is a rock record clad in glam attire. Making their debut on record, the Glass Gypsies are the musical family behind the magnetic Mr. Conn. This eccentric line up features Colby Stark, Nick Macri (Mark Eitzel, Zincs and Euphone), Pearly Sweets, Ultra-guitarist Sledd and Monica BouBou (Bobby’s longtime partner and collaborator).

In 1985 Joe Pernice and his big brother Bob recorded several songs at Fort Apache South, marking what can be considered the first phase of The Pernice Brothers. Put to sleep for a number of years, Joe Pernice concentrated on The Scud Mountain Boys where he was principal songwriter and vocalist. After leaving the Scud Mountain Boys to work on his own terms, Joe reserected the musical creative outlet known as The Pernice Brothers. Their debut album "Overcome By Happiness" was released to great acclaim with it's own distinct style of post brill-building pop. The recent album entitled "Yours, Mine & Ours" (out now on Independent Records) carries the same corrosive wit and uncanny human observation and again comes cloaked in velvety pop smarts. Joe Pernice also had his first book published. Based around The Smiths album "Meat Is Murder" it’s part of the 33 1/3 series (which is a series of short books about music) released by Continuum books in New York City.

FREAKSCENE'S 10th BIRTHDAY
Date of Event: Wednesday 25th of February
*
10 months is an awful long time in the music business, bands, DJs and nightclubs can rise and fall in this relatively short amount of time, yet Cork's Freakscene is about to celebrate it's 10th Birthday! In fact the organisers claim that it is the longest running alternative club night in Ireland! The club is called after a Dinosaur Jr song which was the DJs favourite song at the time the club was established.'The name Freakscene has served us really well' explains organiser and DJ John O' Leary, ' it scares away that redneck arse pinching*element that can really ruin a club and endears us to those out there who are looking for something a little different'. Once you get over the name and visit the club you find yourself greeted with a lollipop at the door and then have a choice of two venues. There is absolutely nothing freaky about Danascene (venue 1), two very attractive ladies, Jenny Glitt and Velma Velour, play everything form 70's disco to Soul &*Motown classics from the 60s, along with some*contemporary hip-hop and R&B. As the girls dance along with the music you are left in no doubt but that the emphasis here is on fun and the broad range of clientelle reflect this! In the other room household names such as the Beatles, Bowie and the Smiths are played alongside brand new bands such as Franz Ferdinand and the Fiery Furnaces!
**
The club is probably best known for it's theme nights, it's annual Halloween Ball always sells out with almost everyone in costume! For it's 10th birthday they have come up with a couple of unique ideas. They have asked some of Cork's best up and coming bands, including acts such as Fred, Queen Kong, Shambuenos,*to play live on the night, covering their favourite Freakscene tunes! Along with this all attending*will receive*a compilation of Cork bands, past and present, to include acts such as the Frank & Walters, Boa Morte, Rulers of the Planet and Niall Connolly to name but a few. They also plan to have cheerleaders and further surprises on the night!

The Chalets have been causing quite a stir on the live scene since their first gig in 2002, winning rave reviews and a considerable amount of fans along the way.
The line-up consists of 2 girls (Pee Pee and Pony), 2 boys (Chris and Enda) and a drummer (Dilbot). Together they make infectiously catchy songs which offer a new angle on indie pop.
They released their first release on 7 inch white vinyl, a split single with Neosupervital on the Road Relish singles club, complete with artwork and design by the Chalets. The Chalets track was also recorded live for the Dave Fanning/Jay Ahern Session on 2FM.
Their early gigs have included a supports to rock monsters Warlords of Pez and Japanese all girl punk band eX-Girl and an inclusion on the bill of the Irish Rough Trade tour with Jeffrey Lewis.
2004 sees The Chalets release their new single on Nasty Pop Records which is a new subsidiary of Setanta Records (home to The Frank And Walters).

Sister formed in London in early 2003 and are a female fronted 5 piece rock ‘n’ roll band consisting of ex members of the Sultans of Ping and The Young Offenders as well as current members of Simple Kid's backing band. Sister have been compared by the music press to bands such as Mazy Star and the Velvet Underground. However, lyrically they have more in common with country music than with conventional rock. Negotiations are in progress with Banana Records to release Sisters first single in spring with an album to follow.

from a press release i just received:
The Pernice Brothers and The Belles play the first date of their 5-date Irish tour tonight in Cork.
The Pernice Brothers released their 3rd album, Yours, Mine & Ours (Independent Records), in the middle of last year which caused quite a stir: “Joe Pernice’s corrosive wit and uncanny human observation again come cloaked in velvety pop smarts. Intriguingly, his Anglophile bent – New Order, The Smiths, The Cure – is clearly discernible amid the nods to Jimmy Webb and Eric Carmen. Classy.” Uncut Magazine
The Pernice Brothers are touring as a 3-piece.
-------------------------------------
The Belles are a 2-piece from Kansas signed to emerging UK label Eat Sleep Records. Their début album, Omerta, is has just been released:
“The Belles take the best bits from the two Neils (Young, Finn) and the two Pauls (McCartney, Westerberg) and create a sound that is simultaneously dazed and dreamy.” Irish Times
“A delightful début album that recalls the languid, atmospheric summer sound of the Lemonheads.” Irish Independent

FUTURE KINGS OF SPAIN
CYPRUS AVENUE
Sun May 23rd
Future Kings of Spain are not Spanish and they're not in line for any thrones that they know of. What they are is an incendiary three-piece from Dublin, Ireland, who have almost accidentally carved out a reputation as one of the most explosive rock 'n' roll bands in aeons.
The years from 1991 to 1994 were a golden age for US alternative rock, a period when bands like Faith No More, Helmet, The Jesus Lizard and Girls Against Boys were at their recording peak. It's an era Dublin trio FKOS lovingly recreate on their debut album, abetted by Dischord/Touch and Go production dream team Ted Nicely and Eli Janney. Due to frontman Joey Wilson's unruffled vocals and the air of Zen-like calm permeating their songwriting, the Future Kings have recieved comparisons to slacker godheads Dinosaur Jr, but songs like 'A Place For Everything' and 'Hanging Around' possess a drive and focus largely alien to J Mascis' crew.
Everything on this stunning debut from Dublin trio Future Kings Of Spain is exactly right, from their bold name to the fiery production and even track order: start with the debut single, end with the epic. Adherence to rock's rule book is incidental, however, next to their great songwriting, musicianship, and love of loud guitars; with the epic "Venetian Blinds" they already have a track fans will be begging for at gigs 10 albums in. They've taken early-90's alt-rock (Sonic Youth, Pixies) and twisted it into thrilling new shapes. Every track boasts a giant chorus and wears the influences boldly. And when Joey Wilson sings "Stuck inside the meanest sound you've ever heard out loud," you can be sure he's talking about Dinosaur Jr.

Stafraenn Hákon (it translates as “Digital Hakon”) is the alter-ego outfit of "Olafur Josephsson" a musical artist from Reykjavík, Iceland. Stafraenn Hakon works in the anything-goes world of post-rock, a domain usually reserved for collectives showing off their musical virtuosity or flooring listeners with their Blakean marriages of Heaven and Hell.
The dense atmospherics of other bands from Josephsson’s native Iceland, like Múm and Sigur Ros, are obvious points of reference, but those comparisons have their limits. Josephsson’s work – while not exactly minimal – boasts substantially less ornamentation than either of those acts.
His back catologue has recently been picked up by Resonant Records and a small US label called Secret Eye Records.
Resonant Records is currently working on re-releasing a number of Josephsson’s previous albums; he’s enjoyed a modest amount of exposure since partnering with the label, opening for Godspeed You! Black Emperor in Iceland and having one song included on The Wire’s tenth Wire Tapper compilation cd.

Polysics, four mysterious characters that are half animal, half machine and were transported back through time from Neo Tokyo whilst making music that flattens cities, drains oceans and splits atoms. So powerful is their music that on hearing it, normal people have been known to believe that the earth has moved (merely the sonic attack which is Polysics has shaken the earth from it’s elliptical orbit causing fissures in time and space).
This daring unit of four: Hayashi (Guitar, Voice, Programming), Yano (Drums), Kayo (Synthesiser, Vocoder, Voice) and Fumi (Bass, Voice, Synthesiser), the spiritual sons and daughters of Devo, forge their riveting music using conventional rock instruments, augmented by synthesiser, vocoder, and computer programming.
Polysics claim their intentions are simply to create new music by unifying ‘inflectional electronic sound that sticks and repeats itself in one’s head’ along with ‘ultimately distorted guitar noise’. By default or design, the outcome of this fusion is enormously compelling. Music with the power to stop time…. then start it again in fast-forward.

Some info on Dialect:
Dialect is a he. Dialect was born only 18 years ago, and celebrates his musical 1st birthday soon. Dialect was discovered in the midst of various computer programs, keyboards and guitars. Dialect is inspired by Ulrich Schnauss, Joy Division, Bola, Mogwai, Mum, Sigur Ros, Telefon Tel Aviv and GY!BE. The idea behind Dialect is to make post-rock using live instruments (drums, guitar, bass, violin, piano) and to merge it with programming and sequencing.

some press reviews:
"Largely based on simple guitar melodies, Hakon (aka Olafur Josephsson) slowly unfolds his glacial take on ambient music over ten tracks that gently drift from acoustic guitar bolstered by waves of background sound to delicate drone pieces. Josephsson works the simplicity of his compositions to his advantage, grounding his developing soundscapes in basic folk and even blues-based forms. The way his soothing reverberating guitar moves through waves of undulating sound is occasionally reminiscent of Jason Pierce at his most mellowed out. Elsewhere the faint siren call of his guitar echoes the ethereal music of fellow Icelanders Sigur Ros, but on a more intimate level." (The Wire)
"It's not often that a release prompts a hasty re-consideration of where the boundaries truly lie, but this debut UK release from Stafrænn Häkon - released last year in his native Iceland, with another Iceland-only album, 'I Astaandi RJ Punnar', due for release here later this year - certainly does that. He's probably sick of the comparisons, but Häkon's output does bring to mind the work of his neighbours Sigur Ros and Björk, though in truth Häkon's work sits in a field of one. The Björk similarities begin with his gift for relocating the stunning, ice and volcanoes wilderness of his country from the realm of the eye to that of the ear, while, like Sigur Ros, he has a gift for populating that realm with half-seen wraiths and elemental mystery. Here is where the similarities end: Häkon has earned the tag
'post-rock'; and yes, now it's on paper I can see it. But if this is post-rock then so are Sigur Ros, so thin is the line between them, and that I can't see. Perhaps it's Häkon's gift for investing his instrumental landscapes with rich emotion that justifies it, but, ultimately, all music - from bluegrass to Beethoven - exists on a continuum, and who cares where the lines are drawn? Instead, take this with you: Häkon possesses a genius that is only one step removed from divine." (Logo Magazine)
"This Icelander's recent album finally in stock-it seems demand in the UK and Europe was so strong that Resonant were not able to budget any copies for North America until subsequent pressings/now. One of the rare successes to be married planning and intimacy, luminous euphoria and fogs melancholic persons. Since it is necessary to pass by the stage of the comparison, one will think of a kind of mixture between David Pajo (Aerial M/Papa M) and Windy & Carl, between Yellow 6 and Leaf Album, Mogwai and Durutti Column, Rothko and Rafael Toral, or Roy Montgomery and Labradford. Many references certainly, but Stafrænn Hákon is of nothing a product derivative, it developed a clean and coherent style through these different tendencies. A disc of pleasure pure, purified, celebrating the life and its pulsations, incandescent like the brilliant sun in the medium of a blue sky strewn with some thread-like white clouds. One plunges in a state second ecstatic, misty, fresh and étincelant, euphoriant, at the raised oxygen rate, the infinite beauty." (Matamore-France)
Just try whispering that title at the counter of your local Woolworths. The creation of Olafur Josephsson - here undercover as Stafrann Hakon - I Astandi Rjupunnar is the second re-issue of material previously only available in his Icelandic homeland. Amongst the most mesmeric instrumental moments not conceived by Mogwai, this music is filled with gentle strings, tumbling piano, glacial drifts and occasionally staggered samples that together fairly glide across the speakers, like a muffled Sigur Ros quivering beneath the guiding hand of Brian Eno. In more ways than one, I Astandi Rjupunnar is the stuff of dreams. Perhaps thats something translatable down Woolworths after all then." (Logo Magazine)

BOBBY CONN
His real name is Robert Robert Conn. Why two Roberts? Apparently both of his grandfathers were named Robert and his parents wanted to honor them equally. Sometimes he looks pretty young, but up close he’s all weird and creepy. Since 1998, Bobby has resorted to dramatic make-up and fanciful costumes to distract audiences from his fading youth. He was born in New York City, but moved continuously throughout his childhood, spending several formative early years in Argentina and Brazil. Most of his adolescence was spent in Chicago, where Bobby lives even today. He is smaller than the average hulking, obese, hormone-dazed American male and is a compact 5’4", seeming slightly larger on stage with the aid of special shoes and customized miniature instruments. Bobby is just crazy about helicopters. He has many toy "choppers" and subscribes to many rotary wing aviation magazines. He is convinced that once he owns one, he will achieve personal freedom and mobility on an almost spiritual level. He spends much of his time designing helipads and heliports for his home. Bobby understands very deeply how important celebrities are, whether they are big and tall or very small, as role models. He knows that many look to him to set an example for their own lifestyles and beliefs. He’s had quite an impact on the status quo. He’s 110% a pure entertainer and a perfectionist.
