Italy's Eyes (and Cameras) are on Sweden-Denmark

Sweden and Denmark meet as leaders of Group B today. A win would send one through. A tie would send both through. The Italians, who trail in third place, are keeping their eyes open.

The very suggestion has the coaches of both Sweden and Denmark fuming.

Reports in the Italian press that the two teams will agree to tie Tuesday evening in order for both to advance to the quarter-finals have had the Scandinavians crying foul.

"We say it again, we will not make a deal with Denmark," said Swedish coach Soderberg who apparently emphasized the point by slamming his fist onto the press conference table. "It's about passion and dignity."

....

Should Denmark and Sweden reach a 2-2 tie, then Italy cannot advance, no matter how many goals they score against Bulgaria. Should either Sweden or Denmark win, and Italy beat Bulgaria, then Italy advances along with the victorious Nordic country. If Sweden and Denmark tie 1-1, then Italy would have to beat Bulgaria by more than one goal in order to advance along with Sweden, which has scored the most goals in the group.

Very strange quote here from Thierry Henry (from dangerhere.com)

“If [Trezeguet] had not scored, I do not know if we would have managed it. But he will not always save us as he did here or as I did against England.”

Is he on drugs do ye think?

I think they must have been quoting zidane talking about henry or else it's cocaine.

Its rather hard , but not impossible to watch two games of football at the same time. It was funny to see a sweedish fan at the end of the game holding up the sign "2 - 2 - by by Italia !"

Apparently the odds on a 2-2 draw in the bookies were way shorter than they usually are too. Should have bet on it for the laugh.

Poor Sean Donavon had a tenner on Italy for the tournament.
