The pits in killarney blast gigs are pretty good.Heavy with kerry people who lift cows for a living so they're strong.
The time I had one all to myself up in Dublin was fun.I only lasted for three songs though.
The one in a rock club on our school tour to iltay was cool as no one knew what we were doing. It's always a good one if kung-fu fighter comes on and you can find a half sober person to fight you. There was a good one up the top of the splapin before we got thrown out.You could smash all the wheels round the edges and kick little kids in the head.

I havn't been to any BIG metal gigs so i havnt muchexperience of vicious pits.I suppose Raging Speedhorn in Nancys was good enough.....it caused me to barf my beer all over the toilet floor anyway. There was a pretty good pit in the Phoenix to that hardcore band 2000 Strong and also in the Phoenix, there was a covers band called Clown playing Korn and Coal Chamber and stuff and the floor was one big moshpit.Other than that........just plain old freakscene nights when they played Bombtrack.

Well, So far One of the worst ones I was in, and you probably didnt hear about this, but at the chili peppers gig a year or so ago, I was in the pit and all of a sudden there was a huge surge of about 5000 thousand people at the front on the left side of the pit, and two big Country guys on the right of me were seriously Getting hyped up so about 500 hundred people fell to the floor, Amazingly though nobody got hurt, Not as far as I know, But remember At big gigs or festivals If you do fall, Get your ass up as fast as you can, Its not fun being upside down in a capicity crowd with a 30 something year old fat guy standing on your head.

They have a thing called "blast" down in killarney which is fairly cool. The bands are up on a stage bout five foot high and you can jump at the stage and jump off the wall. The bouncer guys don't like that:rolleyes:but a guy I knew recently became "security"so I can do stuff again.
A cool pit was in Green-Day.I was in the front and a guy crowd-surfed was caught and then throw out FIVE TIMES thou out the gig.The guys behind me mocked a big fat bouncer so they tried to throw him out,his friends pulled him back in,and there was a big fight right over me.tis was cool

Motorhead,bout 2yrs ago....Heavy Shit....Bikers,need i say more?

The fuckin pits in the university metal night are pretty intense(i.e. alot of fuckin stupid people obviously not used to it,bouncing around to the obvious tunes....Nirvana,Ratm,etc)
However they will play whatever you request.."Davidian",for example went down well,Good auld me and Dec...starting pits around the world!

It would have to be at Muse 2/3 years ago.

LOL good clubs in Waterville, don't they call clubs discos down there and if I am not mistaken the only "club" down there is Pipers 2000. I go there every summer and I have yet to go to Pipers so I may be wrong, it may be really good.

went to see queens of the stone age in the ambassador fuck was that mad. the whole place is smaller that the pit at most concerts but it rocked. i'm not a small man in fact i'm a large man weighing in about 18 stone(or something in that area) and about 5' 10'' or 5' 11''. i've played a lot of rugby and i can take a beating but i was killed at that gig. i rember jumping up and down but my feet weren't touching the floor at any stage i was just being carried by the crowd. it even beats a pearl jam pit when your only 12 and are at least a foot shorter than everyone else in there

Cannibal Corpse, Nov. 2001. A girl got kicked in the face by a huge shirtless man-mountain, and one guy dived face-first into the barrier and went straight to hospital, causing one G. Corpsegrinder to say:

"uh, I think a guy's gone to hospital"

which was pretty apt I suppose.

pits can be fun .I was up at the foo fighters a few weeks ago and a kick shit-pit emerged after about 15 mins and then it got nasty, people getting hurt and what-not. And I thought to my-self 'they paid over €40 to beat shits out of eachother when they could do that outside . Pits are shit when their only purpose is to hurt eachother. Concerts are about music.

JohnnyJ
10-12-2002, 18:18
I don't want to start shit or point fingers, but i have played all over Ireland in my band and i have to say that Cork has the worst pits. We played in the balst gig in the half moon not so long ago and during ourselves,Dog on Stilts, Rift and Paradox, I saw so many people falling and getting trampelled on and no-one trying to help them. I was also horrified to see a girl getting groped by some drunk gobshite while we were playing.
We've played in Killarney,Dublin ,Waterford and i have to say cork is pretty shit in that regard.
If anyone has heard Slayer's live album, you hear Tom telling people to watch out for eachother and to not get hurt, so it's not like bands like to see people kicking the shit out of eachother while they're playing. Of course people shouldn't just stand there but there is a happy medium

thefreak'sfreak
10-12-2002, 18:20
Ya but we're talking bout the pits here.
Most gig I've gone to,I've gone in the hope of a good pit.Sometimes I havn't been disappointed most times I have.A lot has to be said for the security. They can help have a safe fun pit(Whatever you're idea of safe is)or could throw you out for bouncing on your heels.

Lord Raath
10-12-2002, 18:39
I really have to agree with JohnnyJ on this point. I see a mosh pit as a means of expression, in as much as the music is. It is a great way for people to show they empathise with the musicians. It is not a chance to prove who is the biggest and strongest by beating the shit out of everyone who comes within 2 feet of you, which is an awful lot of peole in a good mosh pit. I really hate it when I hear of friends who have left mosh pits with chipped teeth and broken noses. And I don't believe in the philosophy that if you enter a mosh pit, you take that chance. I don't mosh very often, when I do it is in responce to great music. If I can't do that cause there is a great risk of bodily harm to me, I wonder why I came in the first place. Now I know that the majority of people on this board probably don't go into a mosh pit with the intent of doing someone harm, but when things start getting a bit rough, they might sometimes think, "What the hell, kill or be killed". When that hapens, if someone cut the music, all your left with is a brawl. And how much fun is that?

Micky_Mac
10-12-2002, 19:20
JohnnyJ- You do relise, that at the blast gig, any sort of physical moshing was stopped straight away. The bouncers practically choking people. There's alot of people there would of started a serious gig but just were not given the chance.

Cheers
Michael

thefreak'sfreak
10-12-2002, 19:29
The bouncer wheren't even good at their jobs. When they grabbed me they caught me low down on my arms.If I lifted my arms I was out.So they resorted to choking cause they didn't know proper, safer restraints. If I didn't cooperate I was going no where.Plus they where very impolite cursing a lot.You get a lot more files with honey and all that.

10-12-2002, 19:34
Well it was an underage gig so I guess they would have full size guys normally. But they didn't even understand why they where did(I believe)They stopped anyone who wasn't just bouncing on the spot.I only mossed into people that asked me or ran into me and I picked up 3 people in that gig.(Didn't knock over one to my knowledge).

Personally i'd say Morbid Angel last year - i was tenderised by 20 fat sweaty fuckers with their shirts off- kinda gay but very brutal. possibly the best live show i've seen too

I've been told Cannibal Corpse have the gold in that event though. Unfortunately i missed em

Cannibal was fucking vicious. And while I'm at it, they came in 2000 too and I saw this guy stop in the middle of the pit, grab another guy by the ears and headbutt him right there. I couldn't believe he didn't get thrown out, or arrested. Missed Morbid Angel twice! Arrrgh! How many singers will they be gone trough before I actually see them, hahahaa!

Best pit in Cork - Pitchshifter this year was class. Anything went - circle pits, slamming, headwalking - but no stage diving or crowdsurfing cos of wanky wannabe-cop security in Nancy's. People will say crowdsurfing ain't on, but I have never seen anyone get hurt cowdsurfing. Stagediving is a different matter.... if you don't know what you are doing, you can seriously damage people, so it's best not to stagedive unless you are light and don't have big fuck off NewRock boots on.

Oh yeah, the music rocked as well - apart from the second support The Kennedy Soundtrack (Shitetrack). :D

Other than PSI - Right 4 Life in the Wolfhound rocked, got a tiny little circle pit going at the end, great fun. I'll be going to see them again tonight (without Rev Of A Sun :( )

without a doubt the most violent pit i've been in was Slayer in Dubin in '94....wooooooohhhhhh!!! insane indeed. other worthy contenders.....cannibal corpse both times in TBMC, morbid angel last time round, the haunted in eammon dorans, every time the entombed play, napalm death in the pod, dublin. the first song of the neurosis set in dublin '99 was chaos at its best....therapy? in sir henrys in '98 was class for stage diving.....all the old metal gigs in nancy spains/cork...'94/'95....bendiction, desecration, morphosis, primordial, korpse.....

Ouch.... that's gotta hurt! I believe Steve knows moshing is dangerous to your health now if he didn't b4!

The worst mosh injury I got was at One Minute Silence in Northampton in England last year... someone was slamdancing right next to me, and I was doing the same. We both managed to jump at the same time and crack our heads together, and coming down, I bent and fell on my ankle, and also the guy without knowing had stamped on my leg! With a New Rock! PAAAAIIIIINNNN!!!

I am against New Rocks in the pit, as you can imagine. :D

There was some pretty good moments at slayer last year, and about four different mosh pits cause the palce was so big, twas probaly my best cause there were so many people there
Nazgul, Morbid angel was pretty cool too, even though i wasn't anywhere near the pit( wimps and posers!)
Cannibal corpse last year was meant ot be very special(another gig i missed, doh!) Quirky got a tooth knocked out that night, or else got it cracked, i can't remember exactly.
Nazgul, remember Cradle of filth last year, i clocked it in at about 1min 45 secs, ,we cleared the place, what a bunch of grannies they were, too busy posing!
