It's a petition demanding strict control or total elimination of the chemical "dihydrogen monoxide." They want it banned because

1. It can cause excessive sweating and vomiting
2. It is a major component in acid rain
3. It can cause severe burns in its gaseous state
4. Accidental inhalation can kill you
5. It contributes to erosion
6. It decreases effectiveness of automobile brakes
7. It has been found in tumors of terminal cancer patients

Would you support this petition?

Wow, that's interesting! I wouldn't be signing any petitions unless I knew for definate all the things that it does/ causes- good and bad. It's in coffee and beer! What would happen if they removed it?

I voted no!

That website in my opinion is trying to incite mass hesteria! So this DHMO MIGHT be dangerous, so can a peanut.

Regulated it Yes though! if it had been just strict control i'd have probably voted yes.....

But you could never trust the corporation with this kind of potentially lethal compound...

there is one slight problem with all this. think about it, according to the safety data sheets it has a boiling point of 100 degrees and a melting point of 0. it has two hydrogens (dihydrogen) to one oxygen (monoxide). the stuff is almost identical to water. apparently it can be formed where usually water is a by product in chemical reactions. you cant ban it. its in the bloody oceans of the world....

Goddamn it! I knew I was missing something!

also referred to by some as Dihydrogen Oxide, Hydrogen Hydroxide, Hydronium Hydroxide, or simply Hydric acid.

That's what confused me, anyway

It was a test that some psychologists did I think. Used to show how irrational people can be at times, and how quick people are to make decisions about things, and how the way you present facts have a big outcome on the way people interpret the information .It was a good idea alright.

Well, I gave it to my dad, but he copped on. However, he gave it to 2 of his fellow doctors (One of whom has about 5 different degrees from Trinity), and they both fell for it! Both of them said it sounded terrible, and it should be banned... Reasuring, eh?

I was suspisious as soon as I saw the "DHMO" bit, stoped reading for a second and spotted it was water. Class site though, and it makes a very good point. Most people today are easily confussed by technobabble.
