This morning I have gotten a few bounced emails from users alex , fred and john with eirjobs.com email addresses, needless to say these are fake addresses. The subjects are simply "Hello", and contain an attachment called "readme.scr", which is a virus.

So if you receive any of these emails please delete them, and use the contact form here (http://www.feckthat.com/rant/sendmessage.php)to inform us that you have received such an email.

Another person alice.

It is easy to fake who the email is coming from, too easy in fact. It’s just the way this virus replicates itself. It uses common names and sets them as the sender. Well if anyone gets them, my apologies, but they are not from us.

What if they manage to get Paul, Tom or Ciarán?

Nothing really. Technically they are not from us. They are just using our name for emails. Just as easy as they could use paul@2fm.ie or paul@96fm.ie or what not. I just created this thread in case anyone comes looking for an explanation.

If you look at the headers of the email it is possible to tell whether the mail actually came from here or not [they didn't] - you can set the from address to anything you want to

I've been getting bounces to my work address, autoreply messages telling me that I have a virus just because someone else set the From as my address, it's very annoying. They always complain about the amount of traffic that these email worms generate, about it crashing servers and the like - apparently the autoreplys from corporate virus scanners and the like usually account for more traffic than the viruses themselves!

My sis sent me a warning today saying about it (mydoom), these people who inform you are also adding to the load of emails on servers, fine the intention to warn you was a nice one , but it means that you get another 10 messages saying don't open anything with an attachment !
