View Full Version : Anyone see the new Des Bishop show last night?
The idea is that he works in minimum wage jobs in regional towns ald documents his experience. Yesterday it was Abrakebabra in Waterford. It was a damm fine social commentary on what its like to have to work on the minimum wage as well as how racist and pissed Irish people can get.
It was quite funny in parts, and he only mentioned emersions once, but overall good stuff.
His rant at the drunkeness made me ashamed. I have worked in fast food and done everything from cleaning toilets to cleaning streets. But the worst is dealing with drunken fools from harmless annoying ones who think that they have just come up with the most hilarious line ever despite the fact that 100 other people came up with the same line in the preceding hour, to aggressive thugs. Our great craic pub culture is oft times a load of bollocks.
It was very good... you would feel a bit embarrassed by the whole drink thing though, it did really show up the Irish drinking culture in a bad light
One of John's friends works in that shop. I only saw him about twice and he didn't speak tho. Ah well

only saw the end. i think it was a good show but fuck he is a moaning cunt! and yes the drunks where fools but he was egging them on do. it showed us up in a real bad light! witch was right but he made out every person, in what i saw of it was like that and 2be honest we r not. but there is a big % of spanners 2
He was in Splashworld last night !
He saved a guys life, took taxes from the people who check the lockers for change left in them. The story about the kid who stole his last €2 was very very funny. I think he was funnier last night than he was before.

that was so funny, it really shows ya how crap working for minimum wage is in case you didn't realise already. and i am never goin to a water place like aqua dome again. a guy shitted in the water, that means pieces of his poo probibly ended up somewhwhere near the other people.
and all the hair, that was the most disgusting thing i've ever seen.
Not only that they mopped the shitty water up with the same brush thing they used everywhere, still good telly from RTE for once
The €2 thing was brilliant! "I'll make him say sorry to ya!"
I work at the Aqua Dome - Des is a cool guy!
To get a few things right-
1. The shit was in the toilet area and is a rare occurence
2. The cleaning is done all the time and the squeegy's are used in the changing room to keep the floor clean.
3. The Aqua Dome is a great place to visit for all ages its great fun.
4. The F/T staff get more than the minimum wage.
5. Don't knock the Aqua Dome if you haven't been.
6. The Aqua Dome is a smaller version of the NAC is Blanchardstown, and they have the same problems! But better rides.
3. The Aqua Dome is a great place to visit for all ages its great fun.
Are you being paid to say that? :p
Watching it, it reminded me a lot of my last job. It was like the AquaDome, without the water... Wherever there are kids, there will be shit somewhere that it's not supposed to be. And I say that from experience!
I think he is in a hotel in dublin this week. Anyhow its on N2 @ 10pm, don't forget.

Tonight Des works as a porter and general attendant in The Central Hotel in Dublin. He finds the work physically strenuous, he also develops a strange relationship with the hotel hoover !
Re: Aquadome show
What he said about people complaining to the 'skivvy' about things that they aren't responsible for really hit home. I work in a supermarket, on checkouts, and always get people asking me ridiculous questions like:
Why is the price of (insert product's name) gone up so much?
Why is there no customer toilet?
Why has (insert product's name) been moved?
and the list goes on and on. Wreck the head. I believe Mr Bishop
worked in a supermarket for one of these shows, so I look forward to that

it was good, didn't seem as funny as the last one but i did laugh a lot still. the bit where his only form of entertainment was the double decker buses was really funny and he used his hands to make hoover type marks on the carpet instead of actually hoovering, its exactly like something i would do.
that show makes me never ever want to be a porter. oh and next week is the supermarket one, can't wait since i work for minium wage in a super market.

He's in Superquinn next week, I'd say that'll be a really funny one. I didn't think this week's was AS funny as the Aquadome but its great TV anyway. Can't BELIEVE those people made him hoover their room while they stood there watching him.
I have to say though, he gave out about the symmetry of the cups and glasses but I can imagine becoming obsessed with something like that if I had to work there every day. You'd need stuff like that to feel like you'd accomplished something.....if I were in a bad mood I'd probably just spell out rude words or something. Childish but entertaining. :p
That hoover would've been the end of me. :(
Last night he was working in Superquinn in Dundalk.
It wasn't a minimum wage job. His accommodation was fine. His only real complaint was the boredom of the job.
Having said that it was obvious that they had made *special* efforts to get on well for the benefit of the cameras, ie an induction course with 8 people where only Des was new. The assistant manager seemed a bit keen too.
Des basically took the piss by the looks of it. Though I couldn't help laughing when he's flying across the carpark like superman on some trollies. The Halloween thing looked like a laugh too.

hah the bit where he was on bout having to say hi to every cutomer within 10 feet was brilliant. poor man, he'd be saying hi all fucking day!
Not a bad show at all at all, some people i know said that Hector would have been brill for the job, but maybe he would be too well known.
The only thing was that at SuperQuinn he was getting more than the minimum wage.
