France: Will be looking to avenge themselves on England after thier flaccid semi final at the world cup.
England: A hell of a forward unit and the best outhalf in the world, I think France will turn 'em over in Paris.
Ireland: Missing too many world class performers to mount a serious challenge.
Wales: Will probably be fielding a stronger team that Ireland but I think our home advantage will be enough to win this one.
Scotland: All they can really do is spoil, bless thier little sporrans - abysmal at the world cup and its hard to see where improvment is going to come from.
Italy: The Wooden spoon yet again for these guys unless they can scrape a result against the Scots. Idon't think they can...
Don't care
Not bothered
Don't mind

Ah it was brilliant on saturday that Irelan beat England in their own back yard!! I'm just sad that our REAL national anthem was not sung. But hey who cares at the end of the day- Bring on the triple crown. At least England wont get a grand slam this year. All we need now is that England beat France so they wont get one either!!! Yeah up Ireland.
The Irish rugby team contains players from Northern Ireland and the Republic so it is not appropriate to use the national anthem of the Republic
It is a bit strange to go from normally supporting ABE [anyone but England] to shouting for England when they're playing France!

Oooh I knew I would get a reaction off somebody like that! {lecture}If Ulster men dont want to sing the NATIONAL anthem of the country of Ireland why dont they play for England, we did fine when they were not playing on the Irish team.{lecture}
So you dont want Ireland to win the triple crown? And yes I am an ABE because If Brian O'Driscoll did in Twickenham to Royalty what Martin Johnson did in Landsdowne road last year there would have murder!!
Well to be honest how many Ulster men were playing... hmm only 1! Never realised that actually, that's kind of bad. Considering they get the same amount of money off the IRFU as Munster + Leinster yet those two provide most of the team...

Well there was 2 on the bench maggs and Humphreys. So why the hell are we singing Irelands Call for a handfull of Ulstermen, I'm sorry Ciaran but I dont see the sense in it! Watch the next time Ireland are playing in landsdowne road, watch the passion on the faces of the Irish players singing the national anthem and then watch when they are singing Irelands call. There is a big difference!! Rugby players need passion and courage, all you have to do is look at the Welsh team singing theirs in Cardiff, it would make the hair stand at the back of your neck and I'm not Welsh!!!! Well look enough said I just wanted to make a point but it still doesnt take away the fact that we beat the world cup champions no matter where they come from we beat them!!

wohoo, my prediction is on course :)
Team Pld Pts
France 4 8
England 4 6
Ireland 4 6
Wales 4 2
Italy 4 2
Scotland 4 0
with france england left , Ireland Scotland left, wales italy left . I'd say France, Ireland , Italy to win. That would leave it.
France
Ireland
England
Italy
Wales
Scotland
which nobody has. :D
as Ireland would be ahead of england in the case of a two way tie.
I'd be surprised if Italy beat Wales [pleasantly surprised] since they're playing in Cardiff... apart from that, France to beat England and Us to easily beat Scotland, which would leave us in second place! Not bad at all you'd have to say.
What happens if England beats France?
Do we (on every level!) want this to happen?
it goes to points difference as far as I know.
It'd actually be worse for us... assuming we don't beat Scotland by 50+ points [but do beat them] we're gauranteed second place if France beat England, if England won we'd come second if we beat Scotland by more than (42 points + England's Points difference over France), first if we beat them by more than (56 - the English winning margin), third otherwise!
If England v France was a draw we'd also end up second no matter what.

So basically, going against everything we stand for as Irish people we have to hope that England trounce France and Scotland play as well as a school of pregnant elephants. I'll have my calculator out on Saturday then. Vive L'Angleterre... and such.
Jonathan
22-03-2004, 17:32
Yes, yes I know elephants move in herds.
We want England to beat France by one point, so that we then need to beat Scotland by only [!] 44 points. Those numbers above should be +1, what I have would only put us level on points difference.
Mind you France beat Scotland 31-0 yesterday so it's not impossible! Just highly unlikely.
They are also pregnant for 3 years! Good lord like!
Jonathan
22-03-2004, 17:41
Ciarán are you trying to confuse us? Of course I could just do the sums myself but...
That's nothing, there's only 3 teams and only the match results and points difference matters... for the Heineken cup best losers there were about 10 teams in with a chance and it came down to winning matches, bonus points, tries scored, points difference etc. etc.
Not that it mattered to us in the end!
Played PD PTS
France 4 81 8
England 4 67 6
Ireland 4 25 6
We want England to beat France by one point, so that we then need to beat Scotland by only [!] 44 points.
We'd still lose out to France then...
Damn... Yes you're right, make that 56 points.
Ok, best case: England beat France by 7 points giving them both PD of +74, leaving us needing to beat Scotland by 50 to win by a single point of points difference.
And here I was being happy / realistic with 2nd place. :emb:
I'm sorry for starting all this.
Most likely scenario: France beat England, we come second!
Jonathan
23-03-2004, 11:48
That'll do me.
Ireland by 51
England by 3
Wales by 33
.... making Ireland the overall winners...
This is my non realistic prediction.... seriously though I think (and hope) will France win. :square:
what a great match yesterday, five tries, and that dirty fecker for scotland , simon webber , standing on o'driscoll's head ! The england france game was only good in parts, like the 2nd 20 minutes in the 1st half and the last 10 minutes.
Anyway the standings are
France points :10 Ireland points : 8
England points : 6
Wales points 4
Italy points 2
Scotland points 0
neil Jung is the closest with
France Ireland England wales scotland Italy
So I am hereby declaring him the winner!!
If he is who I think he is I also met him in Dublin before the match!

What did he do wrong?
he was so trying to be jonny wilkinson and it was so obvious that it wasnt funny.
I thought he had a good game. Wilkinson is probably the best out-half in the world so trying to be like him isn't a particularly bad thing...
Well after the six nations result it's obvious who really won the world cup! (Although it was pretty obvious at the time anyway)
England?
The BBC commentary was very funny... apparently England were really "playing like world champions" on Saturday, I think they didn't realise until afterwards that England had actually lost!

The BBC commentary is great unless England are playing, at which point they lose touch with reality! BBC commentary and George Hook before the match, at half time, and afterwards.
We were stuck in BBC-land so no George Hook at all!
