Saw this yesterday... starts out sort of weird, for the first 20 minutes I felt like I was watching a badly edited episode of Fair City. But once the storylines begin to come together it took off. Worth seeing if only to watch Colm Meaney piss on (and I do mean piss on) Colin Farrell.

Not sure why Colin Farrell has the title role as Cillian Murphy (dead spit of yer man from smallville) has a much meatier role. Also great scene with a Dublin Bus. Lots of familiar faces pop up, and the action all seems to center around Springfield, not sure where the lads are working though, looks like a hole.

Recommended if only for the cert before the short movie 'Phantom Cnut' beforehand...

Cillian Murphy is my friends brother.

Just thought I'd throw that in.

that phantom cnut film was just waaa! very disconcerting altogether.
i thought intermission went rapidly downhill after colin's excellent opening scene in the cafe - it's definitely not as good a film as it's claimed to be.
nice supporting cast and a good overall 'look' to the film - i'd mildly recommend it.

I'd strongly recommend it - after all there wasn't much else in the cinema this summer to rival it.
The opening scene was absolutely shocking. I couldn't understand how everyone else in the cinema laughed. It was an impressive begining though - really made you open your eyes to the film. The violence throughout the film was brutal, it wasn't clockwork orange ultraviolence, but a real violence that somehow hit (no pun intended) home more intensely. As a woman, I felt so uncomfortable watching, for a start, Colin punching the cafe girl. There were some fabulous moments of humour, mostly quite dark, but some wonderful slapstick too.
I've never seen a film that pulled off being so "Irish" so well, they usually descend into pathetic caricatures or naseous sentimentality - this is hopefully the start of a film movement to credit the excellent literature being produced by the likes of Patrick McCabe, or Patrick Galvin etc

Oh I just meant to say that I liked it - I do have a tendency to ramble don't I?

you mention pat mccabe in the above post - intermission isn't even close to as good a film as jordan's adaptation of the butcher boy. intermission is very pleasant and enjoyable, but there have been many far superior films in the cinema this summer. i know i'll remember far more as soon as i've posted, but intermission sinks without a trace in a summer where we had (among others) buffalo soldiers, goodbye lenin!, pirates of the caribbean, hulk, swimming pool, dark blue,...i didn't even get to see many movies this summer so there's probably loads more i've forgotten!

i guess it's all down to personal taste though ;)
