Joe Carey Jnr
at the Half Moon Theatre
on Thursday 11th September at 9pm.
Cork - 27th August 2003 -- Joe Carey Jnr is a 25 year
old singer and songwriter from Cork. He has risen to
prominence nationally over the last year, headlining
gigs in some of Ireland's most prestigious venues,
winning approval from audiences and garnering much
critical acclaim.
Joe is the former singer/ co-songwriter with The
Nellies, a successful band who proved highly popular
on the college circuit in the late nineties. He
emerged from UCC in 2000 with a commerce degree and
whilst initially veering towards the world of
business, he realised that his future lay in music.
The Nellies split in the summer of 2002, and Joe set
about developing a solo career. He enrolled in the
Music Management and Sound course in Colaiste Stiofain
Naofa later that year, and started taking the first
tentative steps into the music industry alone.
Joe has made remarkable headway in the past year,
headlining Whelan's of Dublin and selling out The
Lobby in his native Cork in January, April and July
2003. He has supported the likes of INME, Rodrigo y
Gabriella, Alphastates, Automata, Eoin Coughlan and
Phonograph.
Joe's music is the cool side of the pillow; a smooth
and comfortable ride through mellow rock, jazz funk
and groove. On occasion, however, the ripples turn to
waves with songs that borrow from the unrest and
dynamism of 70‚s rock and protest reggae.
Joe Carey Jnr will have a debut EP ready for radio in
September, and plans are afoot to release the debut
album in May 2004.
Joe will be accompanied tonight by Eoin Regan on
guitar, Arthur O'Leary on keyboards, Noel Barrett on
bass and Trevor Kiely on drums...special guests will
also feature. Support tbc. Half Moon Theatre doors
open at 9pm and tickets/ credit card bookings are
available from the Cork Opera House box office (call
021 4270022.
