It was good. I might even say very good. Organisation was good, I thought. You could set your watch by the bands coming on and off stage. The rain earlier in the day wasnt too bad, and the ground didnt turn to mud. There was bright sunshine later, which was great.

I did enjoy Queens of the Stone age. *co co co co cocaine* I thought that girl singer had a fantastic voice in some band that was before? after ? feeders. Feeders I thought was background music. Elevator music. Although there was a lot of people jumping around at the front of the stage to them. Foo fighters, a better class of elevator music. The headline act - rhcp - were class. They have matured a lot in the year and a bit when I saw them at lansdowne. Better to entertain a crowd. Some of their songs also creeping into my head to elevate their status to classic greats - along with some songs of U2 and pink floyd.

I heard a lot of people grumbling afterwards that the Chilis were shit, but said folk were obviously expecting something mindblowing rather than just plain good. What was disappointing was that they didn't play many of their old classics - no "Breaking The Girl" or "Higher Ground" or "Funky Monks" or anything from 'One Hot Minute'. I reckon they were probably better the last time I saw them .

Getting out was painful, but not as painful as the last few years. They seem to have got that part as best as it can be. The bus home organisation was pretty damn good, I thought. fill em as fast as ye can and get them off.

so overall, I thought it was worth my money and my time.

Non-musical moments of note:

Guy from Carlow standing up with a €10 note asking did anyone wanna buy a tenner...

Girl from Louth sitting on her €25 blow up chair (which came with a free blow up guitar) pulling a fly out her pint saying "get yer own drink"

40 y/o guy from Derry jumping the fence, landing nose first into the long grass twice then standing up, pulling down his pants and wiggling his ass before pulling his pants back up and grabbing the security guy and lifting him up... the security guy then just turned around, took a drag of his cigarette and let him off to climb back over the fence...

Gobshites encouraged by Derry guy to pull down some of the fence so that there was a big metal bar hanging over my head!

Guy selling water shouting "drink water or die" - who was selling them at €2 each or 3 for a fiver when we sat down and €3 each or 2 for a fiver when we got back up...

Guy who came along while we were sitting on the wall by the river saying "push, push, push, push, push and they all fall into the river"

organisation was no where near as good as it should have been. the staff were not properly trained in crowd control or any of that stuff. i mean how many human pyramids were made. plus a mosh pit was started in which a friend of mine was dragged into against his will to whch he was subsequently thrown out, of the slane that is. organisaion was way better at metallica where security were more intent on calming the crowd then making people angry by wrestling them to the groung which i saw at slane on more than one occasion.

you can't sue. read the small print of the back of the tickets. no moshing or crowd surfing. offenders will be removed without refund.
tom, the reason the chilis didn't play old stuff is that they were making a by the way dvd, hence the lots of cameras

sorry i missed the slane show but i was at the the reading festival last weekend and it was the best organised concert/festival i was ever at. they had no obvious security or big guys telling you what to do, in fact the whole thing was really laid back. there was security at the main gate and in front of the stage but the rest of the time they kept a low profile but still it was excellently organised. there was no pit as with normal concerts, just one barrier in front of the stage and then the 130'000 or so crowd. and getting out was very good as well, no hassel at all.

as for the music, fantastic, the earlier bands like good charlotte and the used were good but it was only when sum 41 came on the gig really got going, they were fantastic. primal scream were a bit of a downer, dunno how they got on the main stage, while they were on i saw hell is for heros, 80's match box b line disaster and radio4, all great.

as for metallica and system of a down, excellent, both were truly excellent.
ok i know this was a thread of a slane review but now its got a reading 03 review in it too :D

slane kicked major arse, apart from the rain that is. I put on sun cream(thank you kev) then it started raining. the sun subsequently came out and I got burned.
