It was good. I might even say very good. Organisation was good, I thought. You could set your watch by the bands coming on and off stage. The rain earlier in the day wasnt too bad, and the ground didnt turn to mud. There was bright sunshine later, which was great.
I did enjoy Queens of the Stone age. *co co co co cocaine* I thought that girl singer had a fantastic voice in some band that was before? after ? feeders. Feeders I thought was background music. Elevator music. Although there was a lot of people jumping around at the front of the stage to them. Foo fighters, a better class of elevator music. The headline act - rhcp - were class. They have matured a lot in the year and a bit when I saw them at lansdowne. Better to entertain a crowd. Some of their songs also creeping into my head to elevate their status to classic greats - along with some songs of U2 and pink floyd.
I heard a lot of people grumbling afterwards that the Chilis were shit, but said folk were obviously expecting something mindblowing rather than just plain good. What was disappointing was that they didn't play many of their old classics - no "Breaking The Girl" or "Higher Ground" or "Funky Monks" or anything from 'One Hot Minute'. I reckon they were probably better the last time I saw them .
Getting out was painful, but not as painful as the last few years. They seem to have got that part as best as it can be. The bus home organisation was pretty damn good, I thought. fill em as fast as ye can and get them off.
so overall, I thought it was worth my money and my time.
Non-musical moments of note:
Guy from Carlow standing up with a €10 note asking did anyone wanna buy a tenner...
Girl from Louth sitting on her €25 blow up chair (which came with a free blow up guitar) pulling a fly out her pint saying "get yer own drink"
40 y/o guy from Derry jumping the fence, landing nose first into the long grass twice then standing up, pulling down his pants and wiggling his ass before pulling his pants back up and grabbing the security guy and lifting him up... the security guy then just turned around, took a drag of his cigarette and let him off to climb back over the fence...
Gobshites encouraged by Derry guy to pull down some of the fence so that there was a big metal bar hanging over my head!
Guy selling water shouting "drink water or die" - who was selling them at €2 each or 3 for a fiver when we sat down and €3 each or 2 for a fiver when we got back up...
Guy who came along while we were sitting on the wall by the river saying "push, push, push, push, push and they all fall into the river"
