Apothegm comes from Greek apophthegma, from apophthengesthai,
"to speak one's opinion plainly," from apo-, intensive prefix
+ phthengesthai, "to speak." The adjective form is
apothegmatic (pronounced \ap-uh-theg-MAT-ik\).:
