Its a bit of a rant but here goes....
I was in the UK for the latter part of last week and have to use my mobile on several occasions, for both making and receiving calls. It's a ready to go phone with vodafone which I know can be quite expensive but I am absolutely disgusted at how much it actually cost me. I spent about €70 on call credit in total but I'd say I was only on the phone in total for about 45-50 minutes if even that.
I checked out the costs on their website by clicking on the link with the subtext "Vodafone new lower prices" (ha !) and was not surprised to see the prices. To make a call to Ireland is 59c a minute (minimum charge 1 minute) when on the Vodafone network and €1.59 on another.
Now this is the bit that gets me. I know that you're charged to receive a call but thought it was only a token charge. However, to receive a call it's also the same price as it is to make a call. How the fu(k are they getting away with what is basically double charging for a phone call.
Top further my annoyance, I could not get a signal on the vodafone network alot of the time so I had to use someone else like Orange, one-to-one or BT cellnet so I was charged the extortionate price of €1.59 to receive a call.
It makes the blood boil
