on www.vodafone.ie ... the title of their main page it says "mobile phones and cellular phones ..... " . Aren't they the same ? So then why put it in . Isn't a mobile phone a cellular phone ???

they are crazy people. two weeks ago they gave me $11 credit i didn't pay for. but who am i to complain. i tell ya, it didn't last half long enough.
i'd be worried if you are getting $'s off them ;)
Actually I got about 10 free off them, not so long ago , when I topped up online. You normally get 10%. But in the end it all worked out the same as the bank robbers (The government) took 10 for 'stamp duty' on my atm card. Just wait until they charge 40 for the credit card.

well, my mum topped my up online from her masterplan account (AIB) and i got the 10% free, but the next day I got another 10 (oops, now I see my mistake! press alt GR, not shift!) and another 10%. so that's 11. my mum has since gotten a statement with about 10 or 11 transactions since then, and there's no mention of it. so thats 11 that those expensive people gave me. The only thing you get with vodafone is reliability. they have the most expensive rates. still 13c for txts! Come ON!
also may i ask, why are you an incredibly slim genius?

So what network do you all think is the best.
I must go with metior because the give you free crd for puting crd in your phone and the coverage is good.Im 086 i wanted to go 085 but the bastards won't gimme the unlock no.
I'm considering going to O2 from Vodafone, because O2 have way better deals... But I'm so attached to my 087 number!

I wish I was still 087...coverage is SO much better than Meteor,though Meteor's extra credit thing is pretty sweet.A tip for those on or thinking bout changing to Meteor:switch your call options to Leisure time.Cheap evening and weekend calls.Nice.
meteor are giving away sim cards with100 free credit on it.
i have 2 cred in my fone. vodafone says i dont. they're going down.

they don't have much coverage anywhere to be honest.
I was up near the top of the Reeks in Kerry yesterday and someone with a Meteor phone got a text message, which was quite surprising since they barely have coverage in Cork city...

That#s a lie, they only CLAUMED to ahve meteor (see, i'm so incensed I can't even type straight). That said I got coverage up a bloody mountain in feckin' connemara two yeasr ago. but that was the coverage queen vodafone. (it just took, im not joking, 4 attempts to type 'ago' straight'. oh dear.)

vodafone billpay. the talk and text plus tarriff. it's what i got and it's sweet. 100 minutes to any fone, 100 off peak minutes to a fone a friend no.(must be 087) and 150 texts. all this for 50 euro a month. plus calls are about half what the are ready to go and my texts are only 10 cent. coverage is excellent and i can't fault customer service either. saved me a fortune since i got it last june

vodafone=shite...these days all they have to offer thats good is the free voice mail! metor will be the better company soon! when they get their coverage up! vodafone unlocked my fone so i can chance when i want! i love my 087 number cause ive had it for 4yeasr and im not able for sending my number out again! o2 have great deals i must add!

What i think is werid is what it must have been like aranging piss-ups and meetin up with people in general a few years back.
I look at mobiles being both a good thing but also the instigator of shed-loads of trouble too...particularly if people are in bad moods.
Imagine all the shit(and goodness mind) that has come and gone because of mobiles,personally i've noticed alot.

indeed... those of us who are old enough may remember when if you said you'd be somewhere at a time you actually had to be there, you couldn't just send a msg saying you'd be late...
...and as for trouble, that is also true, having the ability to contact anyone you want to at any time, while you are drunk is not always [often?] a good thing...
I really can't imagine living without text messages. They're just so handy! But I do'nt like people being able to contact me, anytime, anywhere. And they also attrack stupid prank phone calls.

088 was Eircell analogue... Then they went digital, becoming 087. Those old phones were so funny. Compared to nowadays, anyway.

The slogan for Meteor is "Coverage Where and When it Matters Most". That's bullpoo. Where and when it matters most would be when you're stuck up a mountain, wandering aimlessy around, totally lost.
Whereas in the main areas of Ireland, which are populated, and have Meteor coverage, also have pay phones, so the coverage isn't that important.

ah meteor have let me down so many times up a moutain! that y my phone unlocked and i bring a 086 sim with me! :) it basic a cork dublin galway network but the rates r not that bad get loads of frre calls and shit. and 4 the old 088 phone they still work you got to reg them do 2 work, fisher men use them of our coasts. but only work 4 rufly 50 miles off. :wakko:
AFAIK the 088 [Analog] network was closed down, I think where Meteos is now is in the frequencies they used to be using? Could be wrong though...

You can listen in to 088 conversations by using tuning in to the right frequency on one of those radios used for listening to aircraft and police radios

but it really is piissy when the land line bill runs up!
The meteor offer is that for every 20 you put in they give you another 10 (i think). So that would mean you'd spend 200 on credit and get 100 free. They will also try to give you the same number as you had on the other provider except it will just be 085 instead. To be honest I wasn't impressed with the Meteor coverage , even in cork city.

i found out today that local calls on house phone are free in america. therefore they also have internet free! we are soooooooooooooo being screwed !!!!!!!!!!!!!!:(

It costs very little to actually run a phone network, the cost is mostly in setting it up [which costs millions]
