View Full Version : Best riff of all time

JennyPen

this is just personal opinion and it's hard to pick but what do people think are the best Hard riffs (no namby-pamby stuff) of all time?

I have a few

1. The hard riff from the end of Fade To Black by Metallica
2. While we're on the band, For Whom The Bell Tolls by Metallica
3. The slow riff from Davidian by Machinehead
4. Born Of A Broken Man by Rage Against The Machine

I'll think of more in the course of this post

Of course knowing me they'll ALL be Tallica ones. I do LOVE them.

Oh, 5. Toxicity by System Of A Down (I know it's really the drum bit but there you are!)

Vampira

Yeah, the Davidian one is fairly kick ass. Best riff.... Hmmmmm, the middle of one by tallica
"taken my arms, taken my legs" etc

Demios
29-11-2002, 14:19
I would have to agree with Davidian, although ''Walk'' by Pantera is just fuckin evil!

"Reign In Blood"- Slayer.
"Eye Of The Beholder" - Metallica.
"Hammer Smashed Face" - Cannibal Corpse.

Waht aobut Dave ghrol's riff in tenioues D's Tribute!!! its good enough?!?

JennyPen
30-11-2002, 00:48
That's not a riff Lorna! It's a solo!

As always, *ahem Master ahem* what? I said nothing! (gets up and jives in a Lars-like fashion)

I would also tend to put out virtually everything by Fu Manchu. They rock, oh yes indeedio.

Anything else. Hmmm. What about ooh I know, Blind by KoRn. Even my MUM was unintentionally moving her head in a banging fashion (that's twice in 1 post! wow!)

Patrik_Flame

Nail_Bombed 5 fave riffs...

1. Black Sabbath - Children Of The Grave (class opening riff)
2. Slayer - Angel Of Death (opening fast riff, then 'AAAAAAARGH!')
3. Machine Head - Down To None (one minute in then dirty riffage ensues)
4. Earth Crisis - Slither (class as heck)
5. Ten Point Rule - A Prime Example Of Irish Ignorance (very Downset style riff but very class)

NB.

those were the WORST days of the WWF in recent times.

Although these days they're not much better either.

I'm gonna go with the blindingly fast riff from Motorbreath by Metallica. You should see his little fingers going live when he's playing it it's SO fast, baby!

Thomas the Great
02-12-2002, 00:14
I thaught they were cool, With Austin being a heel and all,
I guess it kinda sucked with Shane McMahon being a heel again..

Today, its crap cause Triple H is not only a heel, but he is now changing his Persona,,
What happened to the whole wearing a Denim Jacket over a leather jacket, he looked Kick ass then..

L.P.G dont diss my Reigndeers.. :o

Anyway back to Riffs..
I think My Dying Bride's "A kiss to remember" has some good, slow riffs in it.
Well not all good songs have to be Fast..

Yeah, babaaay!

HHH RULES as a heel it's then that he's the coolerest EVER. When he's a face he SUCKS! And as for the denim over leather, that was crap. The rest of the guys walked around in like a t-shirt over their trunks. Did he have circulation problems or something?

Fighting crime with metal is the only way forward. And don't ya love guys with black nail varnish! It rules babaaaaay! *evil growley Jaymz laugh*

Thomas the Great
02-12-2002, 23:39
HHH was kick ass as a Heel I gotta admit,
but hes not the type of Heel that I wanted him to be now,,
Hes now like one of those fu cking pansy Heels like William Regal,
Kurt Angle, Jeff Jarret, and Chris Jericho (todays Jericho)..
You know, the ones you gotta mock because there so crap.

OK, maybe not the denim Jacket, but with the jeans, and the
T-shirt that said "Game Over?! Your DAM right im over"

I want the whole adittude, and carnage back in him.. and I want him to still say to all his fans, "You Suck"..
and as for him being a Baby face, I thaught he was quite cool with his feud with Kurt Angle, in year 2000..
My favourite moment as he was a heel was when returned after his injury from the Six man Hell in a Cell match,, and smashed Austin over the head with a lead pipe, and then climbed on top of the announce table in celebration... and if you listened carefully you could hear some faint cheers from the fans..

Back to riffs..
What about Slayer's "Killing Fields",
the starts riffs are cool..

A parabola is a line!

That riff off - Human is SOOOOOO heavy... comin' up for air!!!

Y'know, I know I told you this already Deb but I feel the masses should know...indeed, Jaymz was fabled for having (and losing) a very VERY growly voice back in the day. But Jason has a growlier voice than Jaymz EVER had! It's scary! "Kill.. Kill.. Kill.. Kill.. Kill.. Kill.. Kill.. Kill.. KILL!!.. KILL!!...."
Are cool, nice and slow :D

JennyPen
07-12-2002, 22:41
Haha There's a song by Diamond Head called 'Sucking My Love' where the dude has an orgasm in the middle of it. It's ahem cool

I downloaded a kickass song the other day, not really riff related at all, it's Tenacious D (allegedly), 'I'm The Only Gay Eskimo'. It's hysterical.

Hmmm. Another riff. I suppose a Tallica one (I'm nothing if not predictable) - The Four Horsemen. Heh heh heh. Evil is the only word.

Also - Poison by Alice Cooper. That makes a kickass ringtone. (ahem)

Well now after this weekend i'm gonna say 'The Spine Splitter' by VCannibal Corpse.

Also that Cypress Hill one that is upstairs in my room but i couldn't be bothered getting it. Oh, fine I will *runs upstairs at breakneck speed and trips when coming back down again, grunt* (pant pant) it's called 'Get Out Of My Head'(pant pant must catch breath i'm so unfit pant pant)

Also, 'Wish you Were here' by Incubus and a little bit of 'Asthmatic' and 'New Disease' by Spineshank. Gotta love Spinbeshank. Ah, Jonny Santos, you will be mine...

Nail_Bombed
16-12-2002, 21:29
Spineshank live - are godly. This I know becuase I was in Oxford in England for six months last year. Within that six months I had gone to countless local and other gigs... and got to see Spineshank together with Dry Kill Logic and a local band called JOR (who have now got massive in UK through extensive touring and columns in Kerrang!). Th gig rocked my ass off.

In fact, all the bands rocked. Sadly, the band (Spineshank) in the flesh, although mostly a nice bunch of guys, had one problem - Jonny Santos. Completely unapproachable, egotistical, Axl Rose-a-like 'rock god' type, who wouldn't give any of his fans the time of day. The rest of the band were well cool dudes, very easily spoken to, especially the bassist - nice guys. Shame their singer's a complete cock - even if he is a brilliant singer, he made himself out to be the epitome of arrogance then. He sure was 'Playing God' that night!

Dry Kill Logic were ALL cool dudes, very laidback American nice guys - though rather enamored with English Chinese food - and very tolerant of the weed to the extent that they asked a fan where to get some! :D

All in all, the gig rocked - and the afters were cool, apart from finding out that Jonny Santos may look kinda cool in the magazines, but in reality he's a dick.

NB.

Austin (standing in ring): "i can't hear a word you're saying coz u got 17000 people calling u an asshole"

Crowd: "aaaashole, aaaaashole, aaaashole....!!!"

HHH (on ramp): "do you think i give a damn what any of these idiots think, i don't care, u can all kiss my ass"

imagine getting to tell 17000 people to kiss your ass!!!

One Of A Kind by Breaking Point is good too. And I've been listening to the classics lately, so i'm going with 20th Century Boy by T-Rex, Whatever You Want by Status Quo, Gimme All Your Lovin' by ZZ Top and (just for the hell of it)Lita's song from WWE, tho one on Volume 5.
