"i can bet ya if it was a group of scobes or trendys they wouldnt be moved on... why us?"
Why us.It's quite simple. As im sure you know in 2004 cork will become the "City of Culture" and they are making paul street out to be "The Place to be"Unless your "Different".Once again as the city grows the troubled youth (Us,Yes all of us) will be pushed under the rug or hidden. It's the fact the we stand out or that were not "Normal" is whats once again having us pushed out of site. Now that paul st is becoming one of the major focal points for tourests they will not want us hanging around and imbarrising yes imbarrising the city.Thats "Why us".
Now what i prepose to do is.On next sat.We stage a protest and get petitions signed.Should this fail,we get lot's of evidence on tesco's
discriminatory activitys.I admit this will not be easy but it can be done. They will slip us and when they do we need to be ready for it.Should that fail we go down the name a shame road but plans will come for this later.Give my brain time to think.
Peace out,
Lord Perky Goth.

Couldn't be arsed, really. The reason why they took off the benches on PS was because there are 15-16 year old kids getting drunk around the place in the middle of the arseing afternoon. I don't believe that's a responsible way to behave, myself.
It's not because you 'look different' or are 'cut off from society' or all that crap. It's the fecking drunk kids on PS that's made the PS Shopping Center people do this shit. Not saying all of the kids on PS are drunks, just some of them. And they are the problem. The PS Shopping Center staff view them as a nuisance - which they are.
Though I must say that Rory Gallagher Place is not Paul St. Shopping Center property, and is a public place. Paul St. Shopping Center have set what I believe to be an illegal boundary and that should definetely be protested against. All they've done is move their trolley-rack down to past where people usually sit down - that's not enough IMO. The place is not theirs - unless they have something to prove it is.

Itotally agree with you .. drunk in paul st in the middle of the day is so annoying esp when i have to look after my friends.. stupid!!!!
oh and i remember one day when a S.guard told me to move away from the window..oh i didnt because if i stood 4foot away from it i wasnt obstruting it..and the S.guard pulled my arm.. stupid feckers. but i know that their trying to do there jobs..but that was way to far.
Yeah, they are assholes there. But I agree with them worrying about foolish drunk children. It's completely out of control, and I personally think it's outrageous. I dont' drink unless I'm going out, and then I'm still unsure about it.
But those security guards need to FUDGE OFF!

Fair enuff. That part was left out and and without that part my last post was a bit on the biassed side,But still the drunkeness is not a matter for Tesco,It's a matter for the garda and in no way has anything to do with tesco. But what i ask is why tar us all what the one brush?
"It's not because you 'look different' or are 'cut off from society' or all that crap."
You are intitled to that opinion and im going to be fair and not challenge it.Manly because you mentioned the Drinking problem which is a problem.
But what i ask you now is did you read and take in the lines
"Once again as the city grows the troubled youth (Us,Yes all of us) will be pushed under the rug or hidden. Now that paul st is becoming one of the major focal points for tourests they will not want us hanging around and imbarrising yes embarrassing the city"
The drinking is a problem and an embarassment to the city.If you went to a country and seen it's teens falling around the place drunk you would be shocked(or if you were like me you'd join in) and when you when home you would tell your friends about it.Right? Now because we dress of act differently when seen hanging around the place there is a feeling of grrrr(For want of a better word) and the first thing that comes into you head is drink or drugs. Now i think(Maybe im wrong) because the feeling of grrr is in place,Stores will not want you hanging around outside and will set"what I believe to be an illegal boundary and that should definetely be protested against"
Peace out,

To tell the truth, I couldnt blame the Security.. there has already been a bit of damage done there because of all the people..
Its not just the Alcahol.. its the whole jumping around place and messing about... And I pretty much Refuse to Join In with it all..
Also the Security probly dont hate them.. there just doing there Job..
What pisses me off the most about the place was all those stupid kids gettin pissed in there. Those little b**tards ensured that what was a once good place for friends to meetup and chat is now a total sh*thole.Security are only doin their job,you cant blame them because they give you crap the odd time, look at the plp they have to deal with usually.
BTW what is it like now??(I havent seen it since September?)
Paul St. RIP....Amen to that.

I admit that I have gotton pissed down in the paul st(I'm probably the one nailbombed was directing his point at). Just once may I add, and I got no hassle from the security guards or the law for that matter(ignorant fools). But to be honest, the security guards do abuse their powers, even con o connell(aulderman) has it in for them. Also, this was all caused by a certain un-named person smashing a window in tescos. May I add I am friends with this person but he is mostly likely to blame for this mess. The good thing is that this thread does not matter any more, the evil security guards are playing nice, just as long as people(e.g the mini's) behave themselves.
How about we bitch about The GingerBread House. For instance, myself, liam and gav walked into the the gbh actually intent on buying something, but even before we get half way to the counter, we're stopped. We are told to get out because it was too busy, we immediately point to the set of empty chairs in front of us. The guy then tells us that people from the "square" are not allowed due to the fact that "we never buy anything". We then argued to the stage that he allowed us to buy something but just as long as we would finish it as quickly as possible. I then left as my disgust for the place reached boiling point. Has anyone else had similar expeiriences?

funny enough we still on topic if you look at the third option. But I stop.Go on save your street or your abailty to sit in the coldness outside there.I stop.On topic.
Don't/Do save paul street.
Fuck Paul St,it was fun to be there like 2-3 years ago.
Now its just shit.Full of kids who are just in a phase and angry at their parents.
just like 2-3 years ago!
you have grown up and Paul St. has not...
[just a thought]
Well ive always liked my parents...christ they gave me a home and paid for all my experiments!(i.e. pub visits)
i dont agree with that, people used to get along much better before.and it was more than just music that binded us we all had interests in other things.
I hate Paul Street now, except if its at night, and the Xmas lights are up, and you're surrounded by friends. But that was last year. I've grown up so much since then, and unfortunatly, outgrown most of my friends. I don't look forward to going into town anymore. But my problem is: If I don't go to Paul Street, where will I go?
hey does anybody here remember the wreckheads from summer of 2001 in paul street im telling i was one of them and oh my god what cool summere i was completely out of my head for qwhole length of that summer so anyb ody wanna make any comments on thins group of people that included dildo anna ger anthony etcc... reply to this thread. also i think that paul street is a completely different place now and is vey very boring who are these people where did they come from.the place has lost its appeal.:p :p :p :p :p   :square: :) ;)
Yes, it has changed quite a bit, and the entire area is being discussed in Sex/Drugs and Rock&roll, if you wanna get the opinions of others! :)
i want to save paul street coz im depressed and want to kill every fucking one cos slipnot and linken park told me to the pussies . bye now ive got to go beat my mother to some pantera followed by a nice dip in the lee with my new black size12 concrete blocks *(note the SARCASM)*
OH YA I FORGOT TO MENTION THAT I HATE THOSE PARENTS OF MINE WHO CLOTHED FED COMFORTED AND GUIDED ME FOR 18 "MISERABLE" YEARS
In defense of those people you just insulted, that was an unfair stereotype. Its really only the minis who are like that, with a few exceptions. But a lot of the people down there are there because they get the chance to hang out with people who share interests. It can be quite hard to find people into metal music and all that outside Paul street. Not everyone there wants to kill themselves and hates their parents. But thats not really the point. The minis are really the ones earning Paul Street a bad reputation. Its a shame, really.

A good point. WE all hung out at Paul Street at one stage, we once were small annoying brats, I'm sure people called you an annoying kid too Demios. Nearly all 13/14 yr olds are annoying and small. In a way Paul St helps people in some ways. You see how fucked up your life can get if your not careful.
Also, you actually see some of the biggest Aholes ever there(no names to be mentioned), and they're certainly not the bleedin mini's. The mini's become us in a couple yrs time when Paul St just becomes a memory for us as we settle into a normal 9-5 job.
That Fact that you act like a twenty year old doesn't mean that 13/14 yr olds have to aswell.
Ps. I know people who hate their parents and don't hang out in paul st. Stop generalising everyones veiws.

Like I said before, I can’t be bothered with Paul Street much anymore. I went through the phase of hanging around out there a while back, yes, but it became so boring about a year or so later, what with too many drunk mini-metallers about the place. Now what I do is go in there, meet up with whoever, and then go with them to somewhere else to escape the fecking place.
I was never into doing that drunkenness shit myself, I was content to hang out with my friends, but the peer drinking culture got brought in, and now the place has been taken over very much by hyperactive 13-14 year old drunk kids in Slipknot hoodies. I AM IN NO WAY, SHAPE OR FORM SAYING THAT ALL THE KIDS ON P.S. DO THIS. I am just saying that the group who does drink in the middle of the afternoon and all that crap are spoiling it for the rest of us who want to sit down in PS, have a chat, mull over the latest Mudvayne/Nick Cave/Tool/whatever album and then go and do something - play pool, go off to Vibes N Scribes, or have a nice sociable pint – IN A PUB. That may seem old-fashioned to some of you but then again I am 23, so therefore I'm already getting a tad set in my ways. :)
NB.
PS. Micky_Mac, you always seem to be a nice dude when you're drunk or otherwise, so any of my comments were not directed at you.

Demios. As other people have said. Paul st is not just a place where mini's hang out. You see twenty year olds as well who are basically bolloxed drunk most of the time or whatever. CAn you tell me that you want to end up like that. Again I'm not mentioning names. And since you want to know, I've been hanging around paul st for just about a year. Basically paul st is good if you your really sociable, it's bad if you can't stand kids.
Hughe- I love you too.

Hugh does indeed have a very valid point, this topic doesnt seem to have any significance...its obvious some plp want this constant moaning about the place to continue but i've had enough.

Just going back to the point of one finding it hard to find people who like the same music as them i.e metal out side of paul st.I must say it is a very valid point. If you remember some of my first post here you will have noticed that. But the worst part about it is, the group you once hung around with will desert you because you no longer have the same interests. But you will find it even harder to fit in with the new group that do have some-what the same intersets as you And because you havent realy established roots in the metal scine and are going through the "Transition" from normal to alternitive, goth, punk etc you end up listening to band's like linkin park, slipknot etc thus one will be classed as a mini.Oddly i went through that mini phase very quickly it lasted about 3 mnts and then i decided that i liked the whole gothic thing so i decided to dress more like a felt and after the whole transition you now have Lord PerKy Goth.
Ok if makes no sence i understand as i lost where i was going with it after like the 4th line.
If it does Good.
Thats a fair enough point, all ive been tryin to state all along is that most of the plp down their nowadays are only in a phase and in a few months they grow out of it,then again there are some who stay true to the fact their metal/punk etc.. fans and stay true to it...take the insults, take the abuse,go to venues, enjoy a few gigs, buy music that not everyone else has,be unique, and most of all dont follow trends!Basically be hardcore into somtin you/they love.
I got no time for plp who compete in music listening, which you gotta be honest alot of mini's do involve themselves in that!
If it ment the end of Paul St to stop all this, them im willing to live without it.

I never had any trouble finding people who like the same kindaq music as me.Granted we didn't all listen to the same bands to the same degree. That was good as we didn't put anything down(too much)and ended up listening to a pretty varied bunch of music.
You don't need one place to have a bunch of friends. It's more to do with the people rether then where you meet up.
sure its not even yours. if people were responsible/grown up there wouldn't be any trouble there with the gardaí and the tesco's. Those guys and girls that are getting drunk have given you lads a bad name. I'd suggest you do something about it , your energy seems to be a little misdirected.
Originally posted by Lord Perky Goth

How true that is... Because I grew up a bit, started wearing grown up clothes, and wouldn't get drunk every weekend in town, I lost many of my so- called- "friends". But I'm still me. Paul Street used to be a place to go if you didn't fit into the "normal" mold, but now you even have to fit in there. If your wardrobe isn't mainly black, and your favourite band isn't metal, you don't stand much chance of getting on well down there. Its a bollocks, basically.
I now spend most of my time in coffee houses with a few select, tried and tested friends, and it's so much better.

I'm finding I'm making a lot more new friends these days cos of going to gigs loads of times - there's plenty gigs to be had at the moment... I've met a few lads from Dublin, Limerick and other counties who regularly turn up to HC, metal and other gigs here in Cork. I'm friends with one of the dudes in Bastard Youth (hardcore/punk/grind band from Waterford/Dublin), cool dude he is an all, very good attitude he had to the all-ages gig last Sunday - that having the rowdy kids there was better than not having anyone there at all, apathy would be so much worse than some people turning up a tad pissed.
Also good mates with the Rev Of A Sun dudes... and with a few of their mates, great guys to hang with and go about doing stuff (and good-naturedly heckling bands at gigs... as Ken On Stilts would say - 'Heckle Heckle!' :D )
I have made a lot of mates on Paul Street, but as I've said before, going to Paul Street seems to be a cliché now.... though it's not all that way, I've talked to a few guys on PS these days and they seem very cool and good people to talk to.
It is just the ones who go to Paul Street just to get drunk "cos it's cool, maan" that get on me tits.
I agree with Demios that PS has pretty much gone past it's sell-by date now. It's time to move on to pastures new... a change of position could be better for everyone, you never know.

Okay, let's say that Paul St dissapears as a social area, so now where does everyone go to.
One thing that annoys me about Paul St is the whole you have to wear a certain type of clothes to express your taste in music. Unless you wear a certain type of clothes you can't be a fan of a certain band.
I am a die-hard fan of the Smashing Pumpkins but I don't go around wearing leather clothes and a bald head like Billy Corgan did in later years of the band.
As for the drunk kids, that just pisses me off because they are just wasting their time getting drunk at 2p.m and they are also just drinking as an act of rebellion.
Has anyone here heard Ben Fold's song called "Rockin the Sub-Urbs". Basically it is all about these middle-class, white kid bands talking about how life sucks, as has been mention allready in this thread. Saying that though some people do have problems which money can't solve, not all parents are nice.

Unfortuneately your wrong, they have every right to tell you move on. Up the the actual tamac is owned by Eoin O Callahan. They security guards can't touch you(as long as you don't touch them) so if they do tell mummy or daddy.

Can't say i'd miss the place!
any time i've passed through there its either some little faggot looking down his nose at me or 5/6 annoying brats screaming at me.
Besides all that, if i owned the place i wouldn't want people with no money hanging around there all day getting pissed.
And this bloody post kinda says it all really....... what the fuck are ye on/on about? milkyfcukinbars and sh1t what the fcuk?

Well, just after I posted that, Santa (aka, Pablo, I think) changed me to a Worker Elf. Now, he didn't specify which job is better, but I must say, I prefered being the Chief Toy maker. So if Santa is listening, as an early Xmas present, can I please have my old job back (Chief Toy Maker)? PLEASE?!
It'll be a lean Christmas otherwise...

I totally agree with this statement.I mean, what is the deal with drinking in a public place?
About security, they don't make the rules. They're told what to do and they do it.They're just tryin' to make a living, like everyone else.

I totally agree, even one of them(nameless) acused me of being the reason why the place got closed. And this person has gotton pissed several times and made a total ass of himself, even more than when he is sober(which would seem impossible if you knew the guy).

i cant understand why ppeopple enjoy getting drunk during the day in the middle of town. i mean its ok if your out of nappies and its at sum1s house or something or a special occasion but there are some people who you actually feel sorry for and wonder what theyll be like when theyre older if this is how theyre spending their weekend when they are 12/13/14.

01-12-2002, 11:39
where does it say u can? his location says look outside that doesn't mean he's anywhere near you no does it. it could be directed at a particular person on the boards or it could be an in joke between a group of friends and have absolutely nothing to do with you. and anyway outside merely implys that he's not inside which means that he could be anywhere on the planet but he's not indoors.

Oh for fu ck sake, im gonna say this once and once only,
The security guards are not there because they hate you all,
or how METAL you are being so drunk,,
They are there cause they need money for there families..
(I actually feel sorry for them working in shuch a miserable job.)
They kick you away from the door, cause there grumpy old, di ck head boss tells them too..
The reason there boss tells them to do that is NOT because he wants to reign in all your Drunken, Happyness..
Its because he doesnt like you all jumping around the place, like little fools, causing damage..
I was like that last year but I came to my senses..
Now thats the reason he doesnt like you all,
Its the reason he got rid of all the benches,
and its the reason why PAUL STREET IS A FU CKING SH IT HOLE.
If you all realy want the security guards to hate you..
Then bring them down a dark alley and fight them..
By the way Guanaco im gonna agree with your answer,
NO! :o I will not save Paul Street,
because Paul Street is already Dead!!
