View Full Version : irish orals......
add your useful phrases to get you out of trouble this week in the orals here:
1. tá sé garbh - it's tough
2. tabhar nóiméad dom - gimme a minute
3. tá brón orm, tá sé imithe as mo cheann - sorry, it's gone from my head
4. níl a fhios agam cad a dhéanfá má theip orm - i dunno what i'd do if i failed (guilt trip)
5. ceapaim go bhraithim an cheann deirneach ag rithim síos mo chos - i think i can feel the last one running down my leg
please add more. my irish oral is on after my french class.
they should have a new slogan for an post: an post - it's the job
thefreak'sfreak 15-04-2002, 22:19 Ah finish the oral for irish.Never gonna speak the laugage of my bogger fore fathers again.
So from my wisdom of the day I give advice.
1.Use the paranoid approach to questions. When they ask "Cad is aimn duit?"Just looked shocked and ask"cen fath?"do this to evrything they say and then run out screaming "THEY are after me"(in irish of course)
2.Be intrested in them.start moving the converstation towards them.So what are YOUR favorate school subjects? What do YOU do at the weekend?(see how they like telling a complete strangers things)
3.The best result is to stare blanky at them till they are forced to write out things and hand them to you. Then stare blankly at the sheet and wait till they get so bored they try and mimic your voice and talk to theirselves.:D
girly so groovey 16-04-2002, 00:50 ná be a caint gealga

the evil belly 16-04-2002, 11:37 u could start raving like a complete loon about the unfairness of like in the indonesion archpeligo and scare the bejesus out of the examiner. should work a treat unless they start to talk back to u about it. if all else fails just remember nil fhois agam is still proper irish and u can get marks for it
i got told that an examiner asked a girl how to change a tyre as gaeilge....mo dhia!!

thefreak'sfreak 16-04-2002, 23:30 Right.Don't understand any of that gibberlish but I don't need to for at least a month:D

Crap shit fuck bollox. 3 years after the start of this thread, my time has finally rolled around. My irish oral is on tomorrow afternoon
SwngDncr 11-04-2005, 21:25 I took intro to modern irish at UCC during my one term of studying there....I actually found the oral to be a whole lot easier than the written exam....of course, thats probably because we didn't get very far---mostly learned things like how to talk about the weather, jobs, family..and not much about each
Faith...best of luck to you!
time for me to share another one of my favorites : http://www.englishirishdictionary.com/dictionary
G'luck faith and the rest of ye.
I've been looking for some kinda of english-irish translator online for so long! Cheers for that link, pabs.
Well, it's over anyway. After the worst day at school ever, I finally got into my oral at 3.40 this afternoon. He was really nice and did his absolute best to make sure you weren't too nervous or anything. I had pages and pages of everything he could possibly ask me prepared... and he spent the whole time talking about the one thing I didn't think of. His first question was what do I want to do next year, and I said genetics. Of course, it just so happened that that completely grabbed his interest and he spent AGES asking me about it. I think I did okay, on the whole though. IT'S OVER!
oh, the oul' gineolaíocht. tis well interesting
i ended up talking about internet music piracy and stuff like that. agus mo ghluaisrothar!
happy joy joy 12-04-2005, 23:52 i spent the 1st 5 mins trying to tell him why i was 1st in not 2nd because the fella b4 me pulled a legger
happy : what do you want to do after the old LC. Good story though, what happened to the guy who did a legger ?
faith : the fact that your were one one topic for a long time is pretty good. Shows you can handle a whole 'proper' conversation.
Yeah, I guess that's true!
